With Final Cut Studio 5.1, Apple's suite of integrated tools for real-time video, motion graphics, and audio production, you'll have the industry's best tools at your disposal, including Final Cut Pro, Soundtrack Pro, Motion, and DVD Studio Pro.

From SD to HD, Final Cut Pro is designed to handle just about any format you can throw at it.

Working with multi-camera footage has never been easier.
Whether you're a small house looking to elevate production values or a major studio looking for more creative agility, Final Cut Studio can play a leading role in your production. Start with Final Cut Pro for native editing of virtually any format -- from DV and SD, up to HDV, DVCPRO HD, and fully uncompressed HD. Add stunning HD motion graphics in real time with Motion, the fastest and most intuitive way to animate and express your creative vision. Sculpt, mix, and repair audio with ease using Soundtrack Pro, the only integrated audio application designed from the ground up for HD production work. When it's time to deliver, you can output with confidence to professional decks and equipment -- or use DVD Studio Pro for authoring direct to disc. To output digital files for the web and iPod, use Compressor, Apple's full-featured audio and video compression application included with Final Cut Studio. Its pristine format conversion and distributed encoding technologies allow you to automate and batch-process the creation of H.264 and QuickTime movies.

Final Cut Pro: A Hotbed of Innovation
Final Cut Pro is the first choice of professional editors. Delivering high-performance digital nonlinear editing, native support for virtually any video format, and facility-class extensibility and interoperability, Final Cut Pro gives you more creative options and technical control than ever before. With native support for virtually any format, Final Cut Pro lets you edit everything from DV, IMX and uncompressed SD to HDV, XDCAM HD, DVCPRO HD, and uncompressed HD. Unlike other solutions, Final Cut Pro acquires HDV media and keeps it in the original format, with no generation loss. Output via FireWire back to an HDV camera or deck, or transfer your native HDV to DVD Studio Pro. Tapeless workflow support with Panasonic P2 compatibility allows high-speed ingest and editing. You can view and browse P2 devices, then transfer the files you need directly into the Final Cut Pro Browser.

Final Cut Pro is built for speed with RT Extreme, the amazing real-time multi-stream effects architecture. Dynamic RT adjusts image quality and frame rate on the fly for optimal playback. Choose your format: Final Cut Pro supports real-time effects processing on everything from DV to fully uncompressed HD. Powerful multi-cam editing tools let you view and cut video from multiple sources in real time. Group up to 128 sources together into multi-clips, then add or subtract cameras at any time for maximum flexibility. Final Cut Pro also lets you collaborate seamlessly. Capture once, save time, and share media with multiple editors using a consolidated storage pool powered by Xsan. Deep cross-application integration between Final Cut Pro and the entire Apple family of professional applications allows you to seamlessly move from one creative task to the next.

Soundtrack Pro: Precision Audio Editing

The new Soundtrack Pro waveform editor makes it easier than ever to edit with extreme accuracy.
Apple's revolutionary audio editing and sound design application lets you express your sonic vision quickly and economically. With an innovative action-based waveform editor, multi-track editing, as well as repair and restoration capabilities, you can design and edit audio with total creative flexibility. The innovative waveform editor gives you extensive audio editing capabilities and lets you perform nondestructive, sample-accurate audio manipulations in a groundbreaking interface. Reorder, modify, suspend, or delete any audio edit or process -- or easily identify and repair common audio problems such as background noise, clicks, pops, and hum. As you add effects and process your audio clip, Soundtrack Pro animates the timeline to correspond to the change.

With more than 50 professional effect plug-ins, you can create pristine mixes, innovative sound effects, and high-quality dialogue. Choose from thousands of sound effects and music Apple Loops -- ranging from explosions and transitions to subtle ambience and instrumentals -- to build custom soundtracks and unlimited creative combinations in no time at all. Soundtrack Pro also gives you a familiar mixer interface with hardware control surface support to interact with your project's mix. Use beat- or time-based markers, or import scoring markers directly from Final Cut Pro to perfectly sync your soundtrack. And thanks to seamless integration with other Final Cut Studio applications, you can send and return individual clips from Final Cut Pro, send an entire Final Cut Pro project to the multi-track, record director's commentary for a DVD Studio Pro project, or add a sound effect or transition audio to a Motion project.

Motion 2: Advanced Animation

The new Replicator makes it easy to create more robust actions from a single graphic.
Motion 2 offers true film-quality output, GPU accelerated performance, and an astounding toolset. Now you can create advanced motion graphics with drag-and-drop ease, startling clarity, and unprecedented color fidelity -- all in real time. Motion sets a new mark for desktop responsiveness and interactivity, letting you play back, move, and resize video layers interactively. Watch filters, particles, and title animations spring instantly to life, and render output quickly -- thanks to built-in GPU acceleration at full 32-bit float film quality. 32-bit float rendering produces extremely fine color accuracy, eliminates banding artifacts, and even improves quality when rendering to 8-bit formats. You get great detail, quality, and range of color that automatically scales with new generations of GPUs and CPUs.

Conjure up even the most complicated motion graphics with ease. Just by dragging a customizable Behavior from the Motion Library and dropping it on type or graphics, you can create fluid, natural movement. Intuitive and interactive, Motion 2 even lets you assign parameter behaviors to MIDI knobs and faders. Because you get real-time, dynamic response to simultaneous inputs, you can even "play" Motion like a musical instrument for spontaneous live performances. And with its arsenal of more than 500 filter effects, presets, and particles, Motion 2 lets you create unique and astounding motion graphics with ease.

Best of all, Motion 2 plays well with others. You can drag and drop project files into the Adobe After Effects or launch Motion from within After Effects. All of the particle effects, Replicator designs, and animations in Motion can be added to an After Effects "comp" without rendering. Motion also integrates with other Final Cut Studio applications: Native HDV support makes Motion a strong contributing member of Final Cut Studio, letting you access files directly from Final Cut Pro 5 with cuts and layer data -- or drag project files directly into DVD Studio Pro with loop points and transition markers.

DVD Studio Pro: Redefining Professional DVD Authoring

DVD Studio Pro offers an elegant user interface for professional DVD authoring.
Tap into the advanced authoring toolset of DVD Studio Pro to create everything from DVD dailies to highly interactive commercial titles -- now in both SD and HD. Sophisticated design tools, templates, and transitions offer unparalleled creative freedom. Showcase your SD or HD content with greater speed, efficiency, and flexibility than ever before. Integrated, scalable H.264 encoding allows you to fit HD content on DVDs using existing drives and media. Go from native HDV to HD on DVD with no recompression from Final Cut Pro. Even create HD DVD versions from existing SD DVD projects.

Let DVD Studio Pro help you dramatically reduce encoding time for long projects and standards conversions. Distributed encoding taps the power of multiple machines to share the workload across your network. Enhanced creative tools in DVD Studio Pro free you to design more sophisticated titles with unique motion menus, transitions, and slide show elements. Preview color and surround sound on a second Digital Cinema Desktop while you work. Or audition surround sound using S/PDIF (digital audio) out to an external DTS or Dolby Digital (AC-3) decoder. Whether you're authoring DVDs for film, special events, weddings, training materials, or sales and marketing presentations, DVD Studio Pro has the tools to help you make your titles stand out.

Compressor 2: The Ease of Duplication
Compressor 2 makes digital duplication and content delivery a breeze, giving editors a complete set of tools for generating pristine video for use on the iPod, the Web, wireless devices, and DVD. Use it on a single workstation, or across an entire network of Macs on Xsan for high-performance encoding. Whether you're working in SD or HD, Compressor 2 offers encoding that combines stunning quality, leading-edge codecs, and tremendous efficiency.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Cream of the Crop January 8, 2007
Here's the skinny...

If you want to just cut family videos and such. Stick with Imovie HD or Final Cut Express. They are enough for most amateur users. They give you what you need and with excellent quality. Final Cut Studio is ABSOLUTELY made for professional users. Without a great deal of experience, IT'S HARD to learn. You need a background in things like proc amp settings, 3:2 Pulldown techniques, color adjustments using waveform and vectorscopes, etc, to make any fast headway with Final Cut Studio. And to the fella who said some nonsense about 12-bit audio...you're just wrong.

If you're brave enough and have enough time, go on buy it! At 1299.00 List it's a bargain for what it includes. I mean come on, fully NATIVE HD video editing for under $10,000?? Unheard of. NONE of the other majors, as of this writing support truly NATIVE HD editing. They all have to transcode and recompoile, which degrades the image.

Final Cut Studio has a full compliment of PROFESSIONAL features. When used well a PRO can create stunning HD video in beatiful detail. Some one with Less experience in video production can creat nice looking stuff, but not without a lot of heartache and hair pulling. As I said, IT'S HARD to learn without some prior background.

Cut it Right!

5.0 out of 5 stars What can I say? January 9, 2007
Great product, strong learning curve, good support. DVD Studio Pro4

the authoring system is by far the most difficult aspect to grasp in

the bundle. I wish that Apple would have directed a little more attention

to walking you through actually using it rather than explaining the powers

of the universe. Now I'm going to have to contact them and take them up

on their over eager support team. The 683 page manual for the authoring

system is well worth having around for explaining things Popular Mechanic

probably never thought of, and also for serious laughter. Don't get me

wrong I love the book it explains everything you could ever need to know

about authoring, but I have yet to come across the part that explains how

to use their program. Great product I am very happy with it!

5.0 out of 5 stars XXXtremely Challenging January 8, 2007
I hated it at first, thought it was way to confusing, maybe because I'm new to mac as well. But, now that I'm starting to get use to it after 3 months, WoW! It can do lots of stuff. I'm using it to spice up home movies, it's probably a bit much for such use. Just beware, it has a steep learning curve at first. If I hadn't paid so much, I would have gone back to my Pinnacle 10. You definitely need to invest in how to videos.

Excellent program bundle. Motion alone is worth the price of the package! I use this professionally and it makes it a pleasure to get shorts and even quick web presentations easy!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Editing Programs...Period April 1, 2007
That's right. Studio 5.1 offers the best digital video editing software on the market. Typical Apple, the applications are almost intuitive and easily understood (the basics, anyway). This suite isn't for the novice who thinks he'll turn his home movies into Cannes-worthy shorts. Sorry. Final Cut doesn't do magic. But it DOES give you the professional tools used in Hollywood.

Yes, Adobe's After Effects is just as wonderful to use as Final Cut, but Final Cut offers something Adobe can't: seemless integration with all the other Apple professional applications. You'll notice that Final Cut Pro exports easily to DVD Studio Pro, and that tracks enhanced through Soundrack work perfectly for that special effects sequence you're mastering on Motion. Until the end of April 2007 Adobe will not have any such integration available for the Mac. And even when they bring out all their creative suites to work on Mac's, there will still be a learning curve.

I'm not saying Studio 5.1 is a breeze to grasp. It's not. But it is certainly simple enough to master the basics, and then build upon your knowledge. There have been plenty of times I've had to scratch my head and figure out how to perform a specific effect in Motion or Final Cut. I don't know what it's called but I know what I want it to look like. The books don't seem to have what I want. The tutorials don't touch on it. Online sources seem to hint at what I'm looking for, but don't quite hit the mark. But upon some experimentation it will dawn on me: there IS a way to do it, and it's called so-and-so and it's DEFINATELY in the books, if I know where to look. Such moments were frustrating, but after achieving my goals, it was definately a learning experience.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad Karma to you Voodoo Productions June 19, 2014
I was going to buy the new version, but saw I could save a couple hundred on this version

Turns out this production company was selling this software was selling their old student version donated software.

Pretty sure they broke some licensing rules with Apple when they did.

I would expect more integrity from a production company run by Veterans.
