This course contains 11 modules and is organized into 5 sections: There is a Quick Start section which provides a grand tour of the features and functions in GarageBand and also introduces to overall process of creating a project. The Tracks section discusses Real and Software Instruments in detail and also contains information on how to create Apple Loops and incorporate third-party synthesizers and SoundFonts. The Mixer section provides advice on how to use both GarageBand standard effects and third-party effects. The Recording section covers both audio and MIDI recording including tips on how to interface external music gear. The final section demonstrates the application of many GarageBand functions by creating a remix from imported audio tracks and loops from the Apple Loop Library. 1 hour and 15 minutes of Macromedia Flash videos in DVD and digital download formats. When I first looked at the Digital Music Doctor website, I wondered if these guys could produce a GarageBand course that would be meaningful to me. They have courses on such heavyweights as Pro Tools, Cubase, and Audition, so I was afraid they would try to be too complicated about GarageBand. But as it turned out, I didn't have to worry at all. The video is like they say about GarageBand--"simple and smart". For example, the course explains all the standard effects in the effects section of a track and why you may or may not need to use them, but doesn't get bogged down in a lot of technical details. These guys also have a pretty keen ear for what people are looking for that is not provided in the basic Apple videos. They explain in detail how to convert an mp3 file that you download into an Apple Loop. They also cover how to use SoundFonts in GarageBand. I also liked the remix example they do. The song is a simple vocal piece. However, they use the Rhythm Section Jam Pack and some impressive mixing to create a cool remix. GarageBand is pretty easy, so I wasn't really sure if I even needed this course. But I'm really glad I got it. Now I can fill in all of those nagging holes that Apple doesn't explain.
