It DOES indeed work, if you know how to work your ipod!,
This review is from: Apple iPod 3rd, 4th Generation, Mini, Photo, U2, Video, Nano, iphone and ipod touch (firmware < 2.2.1) RCA AV (Video & Audio) Cable with iPod Plug (Electronics)
For those of you who bought this item and were disappointed, I assure you that confusion may have led you to believe it doesn't work. Allow me to give you some simple instructions:
1. Make sure you are plugging it into the right place on you TV. This may sound stupid, but some people may not realize that there are composite IN as well as OUT spots on some TVs. You want to use the composite (video/audio) IN. 2. Find the right setting for your specific TV. As you would change the INPUT setting when using a DVD player, you would do the same for your ipod. It will most likely be either VIDEO 1 or VIDEO 2. 3. IPOD SETTINGS: From the main menu, go to VIDEOS > VIDEO SETTINGS. Select TV OUT and make sure that you select ON. Make sure that TV SIGNAL is on NTSC if you are in the US (most European countries use PAL). If you would like to use the WIDESCREEN (16:9) option, select ON. For Standard TV (4:3), select OFF. For those of you are thinking about buy this item, I was quite satisfied. The cable was very inexpensive compared to what I would have bought directly from Apple; the cable arrived promptly and in brand new condition; the quality of the video was perfect for what I required. Hopefully you find this useful. Good luck and enjoy!

Works Like a Charm,
This review is from: Apple iPod 3rd, 4th Generation, Mini, Photo, U2, Video, Nano, iphone and ipod touch (firmware < 2.2.1) RCA AV (Video & Audio) Cable with iPod Plug (Electronics)
I read several of the reviews that said this would not work, but for a few dollars I decided to try it anyway. I have a 120GB Ipod Classic 6th gen. Hooked up the cable and had instant video. My shipment arrived 3 days after the order was placed. I am a happy camper.

Why It Doesn't Work on Newer IPODS,

ITouch/IPhone and the last couple of version of the Nano require a chip to be embedded in the AV cable in order to enable video playing. Your newer Ipods will not play the videos over any of these cheap cables. There are a few non-Apple cables that work, but they are going to be in the > $40 range.
