5.0 out of 5 stars Straightforward unrealness, September 23, 2005
By
CrazyKid1234 (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
This story is called Apple Island or The Truth About Teachers. Its about Bradley, a kid who's trying to stop the teachers' evil plan of operation misteach, which is very very dangerous to adults because teachers don't like adults and the kids (after operation misteach) will do whatever the teacher tells them to do. First the teachers take them for a bus ride. Then they take them on a blimp ride to Apple Island and Bradley escapes and after many hardships and making many new friends he finally rescues his class.

I recommend this book to any number of action adventure good joke loving readers who want a good book. I like it because of its straight forward unrealness which makes it outright hillarious as well as totally unmatched by anything I've ever read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Truth About Teachers!!!, April 8, 2005
A Kid's Review
Do you want to know the truth about your teacher(s)? Bradley can help you with that! Well in the book APPLE ISLAND OR THE TRUTH ABOUT TEACHERS, by Douglas Evans. I think that 6-12 year old children should read this book! It is a thrilling book. If you like realistic fiction story then you should read this. I like the pictures in the book; also it has a lot of funny sayings in it about the teacher!! The setting is in the school and in the Apple Island!!!
Bradley gets a little feeling (okay or maybe a BIG feeling) about his teacher, Mrs. Gross. "She is teaching all the wrong stuff on purpose," says Bradley." Here's an example: come "Take out the E because its silent, there is no point of an E so why write an E?" Mrs. Gross is a very weird teacher.
Duncan, (Bradley's best friend,) thinks that Bradley has gone wild because he has been sneaking into the teachers lounge and has been saying things about Mrs. Gross. Mrs. Gross does something really nice to her class for the very first time! She has taken her class on a field trip to Apple Island. When the kids heard that they had no idea what their teacher was saying! Now if you think that Apple Island is a very nice, hot looking beach well...ITS NOT! It's just full of teachers, school work and work that would remind you of school. So if you ever hear or come across Apple Island don't go there!! I hope your teachers don't act or take you to Apple Island!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bound to be a classic, May 6, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Apple Island Or Truth About (Hardcover)
Here is a fantasy that has everything--humor, excitement, and a great plot. Teachers should read this book to their classes. Their students would love it. I read it two times to get all the humor. I hope your teacher does not have purple ankles or you might be in trouble.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Fantasy Without Any Wizards, Just Teachers, March 26, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Apple Island Or Truth About (Hardcover)
So many fantasies nowadays have the same wizards or witches or magical spells. Apple Island is a completely original fantasy that tells about an island where all the things we find a school come from, including teachers! Prince Apple is the ruler of the island. Get it? It's funny the whole way through! I like Bradley the hero of the story because he's not an orphan or mistreated. He's just an average boy who has a great adventure. I hope there will be more books about Apple Island and Bradley.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book any teacher read aloud in class, October 21, 2000
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Apple Island Or Truth About (Hardcover)
This book is the best book any teacher has read in class. That's because it's about teachers, and where they come from. This boy Bradley must cross Apple Island and not get caught by the 1000 crabby teachers. Along the way he crosses the world's biggest playground and through the minds where crayons come from. Prince Apple rules the island and I thought that name is a good one. I hope the author writes another book about Apple Island!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent fantasy, August 23, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Apple Island Or Truth About (Hardcover)
This is a very clever, well-written fantasy. Apple Island, the place where all teachers come, has an enormous playground, mines of crayon wax and a lake filled with ink. No magic or wizards here, only teachers and the things they brought with them to America to build the first S.C.H.O.O.L.

4.0 out of 5 stars Apple Island : Or the Truth About Teachers, February 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Apple Island Or Truth About (Hardcover)
Transferring American children's fiction to English pupils could be fraught with danger but The Truth About Teachers transcends national boundaries. The observational skills which Doug Evans possesses, obviously gleaned from his own experiences as a teacher, work with pupils here in the UK, as few other "teacher/school" books have ever done. Teachers and their curious eccentricities, their manic neuroses and their sometimes dark strangeness are depicted brilliantly. Why has this author not been published to a greater fanfare?

I'm currently reading this book to my 6th grade class and they are truely loving it. The kids and I really love all of Bradley's wild adventures. It teaches students to listen carefully to what is being said. It is a wonderful book, I read it every year, and never tire of it.
