Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Shake 3 sets the standard for advanced compositing by offering an extensive toolset specifically designed to handle the most complex visual effects. Major motion picture studios and visual effects boutiques use Shake to create some of the most compelling effects in the industry. In fact, Shake has played a part in the last six motion pictures that have won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects--going back to Titanic. Shake was the primary compositor for both The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

Superior Workflow

Shake 3 uses an intuitive, tree-based compositing model that gives artists access to any part of the composite at any time. This flexible, nonlinear workflow allows users to make critical creative and technical decisions at any point in the production process. Full curve-editor animation of every parameter with contextual viewing is always available, allowing artists to adjust background elements while monitoring the entire composite. For increased flexibility, Shake imports QuickTime and Adobe Photoshop layered files, RPF/RLA files from 3D animation applications, High Dynamic Range (HDR) images, and common audio file formats.

Unique Effects Technology

Shake 3 includes visual effects tools such as layering, tracking, rotoscoping, painting, and color correction. Built-in keying capabilities include Photron Primatte and CFC Keylight, two industry-leading professional keyers. Shake also features new film-grain tools that accurately simulate and match film grain, allowing seamless integration of live and computer-generated footage. For additional flexibility, Shake supports third party plug-ins such as those from The Foundry, GenArts, and RE:Vision Effects.

Powerful Compositing Engine

Shake was designed to handle the needs of film-based compositing, which means a tremendous amount of data (hundreds of plates at 2K resolution, each image 11 MB to 13 MB) can be rendered at an efficient rate. The Shake architecture is designed to provide optimizations that not only are faster, but also give better results. The resolution-independent, hybrid scan line/tile-based render engine also allows composites to contain standard-definition (SD), high-definition (HD), and film images simultaneously. Artists can choose to process operations at 8-, 16-, or 32-bit (float) color resolution, enabling HDR images to be composited with greater fidelity while maintaining overall performance. And with its powerful macros, scripting language, and expressions, Shake can be tailored to suit specific production pipelines.

Features:

  • Resolution-independent compositing: allows artists to work simultaneously with SD, HD, and film images.
  • Nonlinear process tree: the intuitive, nonlinear process tree makes building and modifying complex composites fast and easy.
  • Proven toolset: the Shake compositing toolset is production-proven and includes tracking, rotoscoping, painting, color correction, and industry-leading keyers Primatte and Keylight.
  • Network rendering: unlimited, distributed network rendering and included render management software expedite job processing (Mac only).
  • Video monitor support: broadcast monitor support lets artists preview on a video monitor for more accurate results (Mac only).
  • Audio-based animation: AIFF and WAV audio files can be imported and animation curves can be created from them, making it easy to animate visual effects based on the audio. The animation curve editor now includes audio waveform display.
  • Scratch tracks: audio scratch tracks can be played, scrubbed, trimmed, and slipped for synchronizing with visual effects (playback on Mac OS only).
  • High fidelity: local node support of 8-, 16-, and 32-bit (float) color resolution enables compositing of high-resolution images with greater fidelity and efficiency.
  • 3D file sharing: support for IFF and RPF file formats allows seamless file sharing with Alias|Wavefront Maya and other 3D packages.
  • Scripting: powerful scripting capabilities allow for even greater flexibility and extensibility.
