Superior Workflow
Shake 3 uses an intuitive, tree-based compositing model that gives artists access to any part of the composite at any time. This flexible, nonlinear workflow allows users to make critical creative and technical decisions at any point in the production process. Full curve-editor animation of every parameter with contextual viewing is always available, allowing artists to adjust background elements while monitoring the entire composite. For increased flexibility, Shake imports QuickTime and Adobe Photoshop layered files, RPF/RLA files from 3D animation applications, High Dynamic Range (HDR) images, and common audio file formats.
Unique Effects Technology
Shake 3 includes visual effects tools such as layering, tracking, rotoscoping, painting, and color correction. Built-in keying capabilities include Photron Primatte and CFC Keylight, two industry-leading professional keyers. Shake also features new film-grain tools that accurately simulate and match film grain, allowing seamless integration of live and computer-generated footage. For additional flexibility, Shake supports third party plug-ins such as those from The Foundry, GenArts, and RE:Vision Effects.
Powerful Compositing Engine
Shake was designed to handle the needs of film-based compositing, which means a tremendous amount of data (hundreds of plates at 2K resolution, each image 11 MB to 13 MB) can be rendered at an efficient rate. The Shake architecture is designed to provide optimizations that not only are faster, but also give better results. The resolution-independent, hybrid scan line/tile-based render engine also allows composites to contain standard-definition (SD), high-definition (HD), and film images simultaneously. Artists can choose to process operations at 8-, 16-, or 32-bit (float) color resolution, enabling HDR images to be composited with greater fidelity while maintaining overall performance. And with its powerful macros, scripting language, and expressions, Shake can be tailored to suit specific production pipelines.
