Great item - Don't leave in shoe though,
By
This review is from: Nike + iPod Sensor (Electronics)
Item work just as promised, only problem is that you can't leave it in the shoe and wear the shoe or you will eventually run down the battery which can't be replaced. Once the battery is dead the item becomes useless. Manufacturer didn't provide a way for the customer to change the battery, thus the customer must purchase a full replacement to continue to utilize the product/software.

Awesome but not very eco-friendly,

Although I love running with the Nike+ system, I have to agree with some of the people here that this system isn't the most environmentally friendly. It feels like a waste to replace the complete sensor just to be able to use your Nike+ again. Although there are ways to replace the battery in the sensor manually (just Google it and you'll find it) I wasn't sure if I would be able to do this without injuries. This could definitely be made easier. Not sure if this was a design decision by Nike or by Apple, but the motivation here is obviously to keep milking this so that instead of selling a product once they can continue to have you spend money every year when the battery dies.

Renewing your Nike+ experience now is cheaper,

This product includes just the shoe's sensor to get training information for Nike+.
I believe that's very useful, because before this you had to buy the sensor plus the iPod receiver, which is a waste of money if you just wanted to replace a worn out or lost sensor. One thing that many people forgets, is that every sensor has a sleep button, you can set it to sleep when you know you're not going to use the sensor, so you can save battery life and making its life last longer, so in the long term you save money.

Completely inaccurate, stopped working after two runs and the Nike + site is useless.,

Apple really couldn't have messed this one up any more than they did (from a user standpoint -- from a business standpoint, a running sensor that gets used up like tissues is genius). It doesn't work. For the brief window that it does work, it works poorly. The main reason I purchased it was for the running community (Nike +), but the site is so poorly designed that even the site recommends you use facebook for the social aspect of the product.
Also, why couldn't they just put an "On/Off" switch on the product instead of making you guess whether or not it's in sleep mode?

Not very good,

First off, there is no light to tell you when it is on or not on so the battery runs out fast. There is a button but you have to put it in your shoe, walk around to see if it's on....if not grab it out of your shoe hopefully think it is turned on then repeat.
Calibration is off...I ran, biked and drove the same route. Granted, I know it won't be exact but the bke and car were close in distance when the Nike sensor was off. I re-calibrated for a long distance on flat ground to assure accuracy but still was way off. If you have the option for a gps I would use that...would be much more accurate.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Nike + iPod Sensor (Electronics)
The Nike+ was the entire reason I bought by Nano over 2 years ago. The entire sport kit works great, so good that my wife bought an Ipod and sport kit 6 months later. So far I have over 800 miles on my original sensor and I am buying one to have on hand just in case it dies. My wife's sensor died after just over a year and 300+ miles.
I love the challenges on the NikePlus website. Since I primarily run alone, they help keep me motivated. Flaws: There is no speed work settings. It would seem like it would be easy to allow users to program in an interval program of some sort. Also there is a known flaw that after 500 kilometers, the voice of Paula keeps congratulating users on finsihing 500k. I still give this 5 stars because the advantages greatly outweigh these drawbacks.

Doesn't work, paired up only once, no LED???,

I was hyped about this product. I thought it was a great way to make my running more intuitive. This thing only let me down. It just flat out doesn't work. I only got it to pair up with my ipod touch 2g one time, and it wasn't even accurate. After that, my itouch was never able to find the sensor while I was walking/running. I think the most frustrating thing about this product is there is no way to charge it, and it has no LEDs. Meaning.... I could have bought one that was produced 5 years ago, and the battery had already gone to waste, and there is no way of even knowing that for sure.
I didn't even want to put forth the effort to return this little piece of junk. I don't want a replacement. Its just not a good product. Save yourself some stress, don't get one.

I bought this without having too high of expectations for it. I was very pleased with the product after using it for a couple weeks. I do not have the nike+ shoes that hold the sensor, I made a pouch to keep in in and attached it to the shoes with the laces. I went for a 1.5 mile run according to the mapmywalk website. When I uploaded my run to the nikeplus website it said it was a 1.7 mile run. I drove the route with my car and it was 1.5. There was an option to calibrate your sensor after the run. I knew it was 1.5 not 1.7 so I changed it. Ever since then it has been tracking very accurately. When you plug in your IPhone 3GS in my case, iTunes automatically sends your run information to the nikeplus site, which I had to create an account at earlier. That site is quite useful, it will graph your run time and distance, has a place to create goal or challenges for yourself and has an active community that you can interact with. I believe this product is well worth the price.

Worst $29 Ever Spent,
This review is from: Nike + iPod Sensor (Electronics)
I bought this sensor and even got a new nano and the sensor never worked right. I'm a runner and it *never* logged my running distances accurately, even after calibration. Sometimes the nano/sensor indicated everything was working at the beginning of the run, but it had no data to download. I will never buy another one of these again.
(I only gave this one star because amazon wouldn't accept zero stars).

Awesome product with VERY limited shelf life,
By

This is a great tool. I love running with the Nike+. You get feedback every 1km (or 1mi) you run and a verbal half way point for any distance workouts. The Nike website is handy to see your progression as well.
The problem here is that the sensors last maybe 1-2 months. I took mine out after every run and turned it off - but the thing only worked for 16 runs! And these were all under 45 minutes runs. The claim on the package that it works for 1000 hours of activity is bogus. If apple could create a better better and shelf life, this would be a great product. But after using it for a month and then it doesn't work at all, very frustrating. There is a 1 year warranty, so if you buy this product, save your receipt and box and make sure you buy from somewhere that it's easy to return it to once it proves to be defective. |
