5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Upgrade for a Mac Novice!
We purchased our Mac in 2008 to create videos and other fun stuff. So far, it only holds my iTunes library, and photos to create Christmas cards. In other words, we don't use it much, so every time I turn it on, it's an adventure. When I found out I could no longer buy cards with iPhoto 6, and that an OS and iLife upgrade were necessary, I was terrified, because PC...

1.0 out of 5 stars wireless network timeout
I figured that my mini had been on Tiger far too long and that it was time to upgrade to Snow Leopard. The upgrade process seemed to work easily enough, but when Snow Leopard started up, it wasn't connected to my wireless network. OK, shouldn't be a big deal, just put in the network info again, right? Well, wrong. Every time I tried connecting, the connection would...

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Upgrade for a Mac Novice!, September 21, 2011

We purchased our Mac in 2008 to create videos and other fun stuff. So far, it only holds my iTunes library, and photos to create Christmas cards. In other words, we don't use it much, so every time I turn it on, it's an adventure. When I found out I could no longer buy cards with iPhoto 6, and that an OS and iLife upgrade were necessary, I was terrified, because PC upgrades are almost always a pain. I consulted with the folks at an Apple store, and purchased this product on Amazon, because Apple no longer sells it. Was happy to see "Only for Intel-based Mac computers with Mac OS X Leopard or Mac OS X Tiger" right on the box. Then I sat down at the Mac.

To my relief, the installation went flawlessly! Insert disc, follow prompts. After upgrading my Tiger OS to Snow Leopard OS, I made sure my iTunes library was still there, then I checked for software updates. I did receive the message that I was not connected to the net, but I just re-entered my info and was able to continue. I did not install iWorks, because we do not use that program. Installed iLife, checked for more updates and all was fine. Total upgrade time was about 4 hours, 15 minutes, but I was able to do other stuff during downloads/installations. Nice to know when it says "30 minutes left," it really is 30 minutes!

When purchasing, make sure to buy the package with iLife '11 - it has purple, blue, green and orange squares on the front of the box. Now that I have more exciting goodies to work with, I think I'll finally be getting down to making videos! Woo Woo!

I just upgraded my OS to Snow and it's just amazing, the family package is really good value for money compared to the single one. Try to get friends to share the cost of it.

5 licenses for Snow leopard, iLife and iWork.

Handy if you have multiple macs in your household.

Newer macs come with iLife, but iWork needs to be purchased separately.

1.0 out of 5 stars wireless network timeout, June 27, 2011

I figured that my mini had been on Tiger far too long and that it was time to upgrade to Snow Leopard. The upgrade process seemed to work easily enough, but when Snow Leopard started up, it wasn't connected to my wireless network. OK, shouldn't be a big deal, just put in the network info again, right? Well, wrong. Every time I tried connecting, the connection would fail and the connection window would simply say that the connection timed out. I tried a clean install, but still had the same problem. A web search found many other people having similar problems with their wireless after upgrading. I did find a suggestion (removing network config files under /Library), and that seemed to work at first, but that would just give me a connection that would last for about an hour. Once the network failed, I would have to reboot to be able to reconnect. I even tried moving my router over to the mini and doing a system update while connected via an ethernet cable, but that didn't help anything. Apple should be ashamed for making such a shoddy product. I wonder if it's intentionally this bad to force you to buy a new computer with everything set up by them.

I bought this as a x-mas gift but when it was opened that morning, it was scratched and thus unuseable. I returned and reordered this same item, and unbelievable but it arrived with another scratched system disk. I even had my son take the system CD set and his laptop to the Apple store and they confirmed it was defective. I have never had such a bad experience with Amazon and quality control! I am going to return this and just get my money back because I can not stand dealing with anymore scratched unusable disks. This was a gift item to add insult to injury. I can not believe what a bad experience this purchase was.
