5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific value and retains MacBook Air's satin appearance

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad product, very bad, spoils the look of MBA
I installed it with ultra care and caution, and it still ended up with LOTS of UGLY air bubbles. My Macbook Air suddenly had 100s of pimples and looked ugly. The feel of the skin also was very rough.
I then removed it after hardly 5 minutes of installation, and it left many marks of glue on my MBA. To remove those, I had to scratch my new MBA. Finally I got rid of...

I usually do not purchase an item online that has not had any user reviews, however the price was so low, I felt that it was worth the gamble. I have installed this product on my MacBook Air. What I love is that it comes with a matte finish, very much like the standard aluminum finish on Apple's new laptops. Other protective films on the market are MUCH more expensive (e.g. Zagg's InvisibleSHIELD for the MacBook Air costs $37.29 at Amazon) AND, they are glossy, which was not the appearance I wanted, since to me, it "plasticizes" the beautiful brushed look of the aluminum.

The sparse instructions only state to remove the sticker backing, then "slowly attach the skin from one corner, letting bubbles out." I had much difficulty getting this just right at first, leaving bubbles, streaks, and finger prints behind as I had to lift off and reapply the film numerous times during the alignment process. I ordered another set, (the JoWow company kindly paid for the shipping), but this time, with JoWow's blessing, I used soapy water just like the bestskinsever.com site recommends for application of their film. VOILA! It now looks literally perfect! It was SO much easier applying it this way. You can slide the skin around until the placement is just right, then just stick it down as you squeegee the air and water from beneath the film with a credit card.

I was able to place the lower film dry without any problems, and would not feel comfortable wetting down this side anyway since the Mac's cooling ports are down there. The kit includes small pieces for the hinges and port cover. All of the pieces were cut perfectly. I only used the soapy water on the laptop cover, where there are no openings, and during installation, I sandwiched a sheet of Saran Wrap between the top and bottom halves of the closed laptop just for insurance.

For only $9.99, there's nothing I found that looks anything as good as this. It also seems like a very tough, durable film as well. Clear films can look good on a glossy surfaces like the back of the iPhone, but this matte film looks terrific on the Mac's aluminum.

With the success I had with elago's Body Protection Film, I purchased through Amazon elago's Wrist & Touchpad Guard also, and am leaving a review at that product's page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value, March 19, 2010

Price is attractive and this protector doesn't disappoint. Just need to be patient with it.

It was easy to apply and reapply. Only thing is that once you put it on, you will be immediately disappointed in how it looks. Air bubbles WILL BE visible no matter how much you reapply it. They started to disappear slightly in a few days, but being impatient, I helped it and LIGHTLY "popped" the air bubbles with a needle and massaged the air out. Now my MacBook Air looks exactly like the customer pictures shown. It is now invisible and only noticeable by closer inspection or by touch.

The material is durable and provides excellent protection. It's already absorbed a large scratch for the MacBook. The surface is a matte material and not rubbery, so be careful as it may slip out of your hand. I think the matte look blends perfectly with the shell of the MacBook Air, unlike the obvious high-gloss look of other protectors.

For $9.99 this is an excellent value. I'd recommend it and would buy it again.

DO NOT buy it, unless you wan an ugly looking or scratched Macbook Air.
