4.0 out of 5 stars Apple Master Rocks!
This handy little device will save you hours of work if you like to make apple pies! It is very easy to work, easy to clean, and you can get 10-12 apples peeled, cored, and sliced in less than five minutes. You can also use it to peel potatoes, although I use mine just for apples. Trust me, it is awesome. The only bummer is that big genetically modified apples do not...

This was purchased as a replacement for an older peeler/corer/slicer that clamped directly to the table very similar to http://www.amazon.com/Norpro-Apple-Peeler-Corer-Slicer/dp/B003IRW1B8/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1288612059&sr=8-4 .

But if you love to make apple pies, you will LOVE this!

I have had my Norpro apple/potato peeler for over 10 years and it's still going strong. I make lots of apple pies and crisps and use it for freezing apples in season. You won't be disappointed with this brand. I'm buying one today for my DIL who borrows my peeler all the time.

It doesn't peel those gigantic apples very well, so buy the bags of smaller apples when using this peeler.

The apple master was anything but. In the suction clamp mode it frequently came loose when attached to our kitchen table (wooden), and by frequently i mean every other apple. When attached to our laminated counter top it would work through 2 or three apples before coming loose. When used with the clamp the entire assembly sits at an odd angle (due to the clamping pressure being off center) and eventually (3 - 5 apples) works its way loose.

The corer can be rotated out of the way, which initially sounded like a plus, but ended up as a minus. Once moved it was finicky to get back to it's "proper place." Once "locked" down, it tends to drift and needs to be continually reset.

Overall, this product does not function as advertised. I recommend going with a different model.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hit or miss, literally., September 30, 2008

The Apple Master w/clamp by Norpro is a nice apple slicer, corer, peeler. The experience we've had with it is that it either works 100% perfectly or it tends to skip over some of the peel. Not a big deal to us so we are really enjoying it and it works so quickly and effortlessly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why did I wait so long?, August 23, 2008
This review is from: Apple Master Apple Peeler, Corer, and Slicer, Colors Vary (Kitchen)
I always go through a lot of apples in the latter part of the year. I dehydrate apples, make applesauce, apple cake, and freeze slices for pie. It was taking me a long time to peel, cut and core apples for different projects. Although I love apple treats, the prep time was finally too much. Yesterday, I bought the Norpro Apple Master Model 866R. I hooked it up, and was amazed. In lightening speed, I had peeled, cut and cored 12 apples in less than 10 minutes! It is capable of 3 different options:

1) Pare, Core and Slice,
2) Core and slice only,
3) Pare only and has a sharp stainless steel blade.

It is also compatible for potatoes. The instruction booklet is easy to follow. The suction base is strong, and works on my coffee table so I can work and watch a movie at the same time. The slices are uniform in size, essential for dehydrating and baking for even doneness.

This gadget will save you time and energy. I highly recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sliced too thin, July 8, 2008

This review is from: Apple Master Apple Peeler, Corer, and Slicer, Colors Vary (Kitchen)
For my purposes, it would rate zero stars, but in fairness I gave it three. The trouble is: I am not interested in making apple sauce; I just want to eat a peeled and sliced apple. If the lead screw on the slicer creates a thick enough spiral, an apple-shaped spiral can be slid off the core, and one knife slice provides a neatly sliced apple. My two previous peelers did this. But this machine slices so thin that the spiral starts to turn inside out like a misbehaving coiled phone cord and then falls apart. So, I was forced to return the machine for a refund.

5.0 out of 5 stars Over 20 years of Apple Master, November 25, 2009
This review is from: Apple Master Apple Peeler, Corer, and Slicer, Colors Vary (Kitchen)
I don't recall how long I've had my Apple Master, but it must be over 20 years. My model only screws on a table, there is no rubber mount. I make a lot of apple deserts in the fall and can pare, slice and core an apple in less than a minute. I try to use the classic Northern Spy since it taste great and is so huge that 4 or 5 will make a pie. Yes, the core is so big that some seeds may be left, but they are easily cut out. I haven't noticed the thin slice issue and like the ability to use one, two or three of the modes as needed. Incidentally, it peels so fast that microdrops of juice shoot into the air and I prefer to use it outside or cover it with a towel inside to avoid sticky floors. It rinses off in a flash and dries without rusting, but the screw threads should get a vegetable oil rub every year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life is a peel away!, October 30, 2010

Researched many apple peelers, corers and slicers, and chose the Apple Master.

The best investment I ever made. Snapped through five to six bushels of apples in a breeze! Fantastic product, easy to use and accurate.
It also adheres to my granite counter-top, with no sliding. A light-weight product, thats simple to operate.

Clean-up is simple. A real pleasure to use. I highly recommend the Apple Master.

I bought this device when I started drying apples. This little guy makes it so fast and easy. Just pop the apple on and spin away. Catch the peels as they come off and toss them in the compost (or to your dog). Slide off the sliced, peeled apple and break off pieces to put on the drying tray. Slide off core and compost. Repeat.

I spend much less time prepping apples for drying, plus it's much safer as there are no sharp peelers or knives for me to cut myself on. Clean up is a breeze.

December 2011 UPDATE: I've been using this device for six months and it looks and works like it is new. It is well-made with a simple design, and I expect it will outlive me.

I've been using it to make applesauce and can whip out a batch in under an hour. The thin slices cook quickly, so the sauce doesn't need much time on the stove.

I love this thing!

I am very satisfied with this product. I purchased it because it was recommended on a site for excalibur hydrators. I can peel a 5lb bag of apples in no time at all. It does everything I expected it to do.
