Make sure this is the right one!,

This review is from: Apple Mini-dvi To VGA Adapter (Personal Computers)
This adaptor will connect a VGA projector or monitor to an intel iMac or MacBook, but the older flat panel iMac and iBook have a port which looks nearly identical, but is actually miini-VGA, and this adaptor will not fit. I also do not think the comment about a higher price at the Apple store is correct, at least the online store.

This review is from: Apple Mini-dvi To VGA Adapter (Personal Computers)
I bought this for my new aluminum MacBook to connect to a flat panel VGA monitor. I read the Amazon reviews about this product, which said that people bought it for their "MacBook," but didn't realize that they were written for the earlier generation MacBooks, which use the mini-DVI. The new aluminum MacBooks now use a different port, the MiniDisplay port, which is much smaller than the mini-DVI slot and looks kinda like a mini-USB port, except with rounded corners on the bottom.Luckily, I was able to exchange this product with no problems. I contacted the seller, CE Compass, who very professionally just allowed me to exchange it and I only ended up paying $5.95 shipping, which is much better than having to buy a new one and keep an adaptor I couldn't use. I even had already opened the packaging, and they didn't charge me any sort of "restocking" fee for that. So, if you have the new Aluminum MacBook 13-inch, don't get this one! Get the mini-Display port to VGA adaptor, also available on Amazon. I can't really speak for MacBook Pro. I think the MacBook Pro came with the aluminum body earlier than the MacBook. I think the miniDisplay port is only on the newest generation of MacBook Pro's with the unibody aluminum body. (Note: this review was written in May 2009) By the way, I do like the mini-Display port to VGA adaptor just fine. It worked immediately and it's just great to be able to have that second monitor there so you can stretch out your workspace and windows across two monitors.

I had one of these and it began shorting within six months. Still usuable if you fiddle with it and set it just right, but not suitable for serious work where having your presentation go all green, for example, would be a disaster. But there aren't many alternatives. I may use the mini-dvi to dvi adapter with a vga-dvi adapter. Clumsy, but would probably work.
