This is a standard plug and play usb dual action game pad. It would probably actually work with a windows running machine, as the drivers necessary for it to work are recognized by games that recognize game pads. 2.0 out of 5 stars Apple only, Hah!
I didn't know it but this product comes with no drivers for Mac. I had to download a third party driver because even though the controls are supposed to be native I couldn't find any way to set them. Since it was so cheap I can't complain too much, though I can't really work it very well.

This is a standard plug and play usb dual action game pad. It would probably actually work with a windows running machine, as the drivers necessary for it to work are recognized by games that recognize game pads. It should be noted that some of the other reviews quote that Quake 4, Doom 3, and Call of Duty games don't work with the game pad. It should be noted that Quake 4 and Doom 3 were not designed to work with gamepads, and only through the use of a third party software can they be made to recognize game pads. Also, though I'm not sure if this is the case for the the most recent Call of Duties released for Mac, I remember both 1 and 2 were again gamepad incompatible.

I've owned one for a little over a year and a half, and found it durable and easy to use. It's main issue, when there is drift in the stick or the d-pad, is general a software error, not a hardware one. Many of these problems can be fixed by pressing the button that swaps d-pad and left analog's functionality, and requires some patience to understand when that doesn't work, it's probably the software, which quick google searches generally reveal.

It works well with all mac emulators that are currently at a release stage, though notably not at the present time with most emulators that are in beta and pre-beta forms. Of the emulators that are at a release stage, the only one it is noticeably wonky with is sixtyforce, though a recent release of that emulator seems to have fixed that problem entirely.

I'm buying another, presently, as my last one broke due to the number one cause for hardware to not work as intended, human error. This may be of note to some though. Like all game pads, over time dust and other detritus will collect around the buttons and in the wells. Make sure to clean your game pad (and mice with balls and trackballs and keyboards) regularly to avoid this buildup destroying the device sooner. Keeping the device clean will allow it to last a good long time.

Mine met it's end at the hand of careless soda putting down, resulting in a full shower in ginger ale. Despite this, the controller still works, but several of the buttons just aren't as responsive as they need to be for many games, and occasionally stick. Hopefully shipping will be kind to the one I've ordered.

Good price, decent quality, works well with MAME. No need for any drivers with OS 10.5.

4.0 out of 5 stars OK controller, July 2, 2010

I don't doubt the legitimacy of those who have complained about its compatibility, but I have used it on my Mac for Lego Indiana Jones and other games, and it works just fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Computer game pads are supported by the -Game- only....., October 17, 2010
This review is from: Apple Only Gamepad Dual Action (Personal Computers)
For those having problems using this,

The GAME is the one that supports -any- Game Pad NOT the Computer!

I had one of these years back and worked fine.
Some games were never made to use a game pad of any kind. You have to use a "Game Pad emulator" in order to use a game pad for those games. If there is no setup for a game controller in the game options then it wasn't made for one.
"MAME" as suggested earlier and others do a pretty good job of it. Do a search for "MAME" or "Game Pad Emulator" and take your pick. Some may work better in some games then others. They're pretty easy to use, you just map the pad just like you would in a normal game that supports them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Apple only?, December 23, 2010
This review is from: Apple Only Gamepad Dual Action (Personal Computers)
My gamepad simply calls itself the "Logitech Dual Action", but it looks much more like this one than the other one listed on Amazon. If my controller is not this one, then Amazon needs to fix up its images.

First, let me say, this controller is not "Apple only". It works perfectly fine on Windows, though it doesn't seem to work on Linux. I've never even used a Mac.

Now, about the controller itself. This thing is a great design. Buttons, control sticks, all good. But one thing in particular stands out to me: the d-pad. Many people complain that it's "too mushy", but I have to disagree. In fact, I would say that the design of the d-pad is absolutely genius. I opened it up, and unlike most d-pads, which have the little rubber things pressed directly by the d-pad, this controller actually separates the d-pad from the rubber things with plastic tubes (around 1 cm). The result of this is that the d-pad "clicks" like normal buttons, allowing easier control over the direction you're pointing to.

So why do I give this only 4 stars? Because mine stopped working correctly after the warranty expired, and Logitech charges you way too much to get it fixed (to the point where it's cheaper to just get a new one). Since I haven't heard of my problem before (not staying connected to the OS), I'm guessing it's just a problem specific to my controller, but still, if you buy one of these, hope that if it does break, it happens before the warranty expires.

This is a gamepad sold as an apple controller, but it turns out it doesn't work with a apple computer. I got an imac and i bought call of duty specially for playing it whit this gamepad and it dpen'st work at all. There are no installation instructions in the box and there is no CD with any drivers that could help. I tried looking for a driver on internet and couldn't find it either!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Well this item doesn't work with my Mac games, November 3, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Apple Only Gamepad Dual Action (Personal Computers)
Hey why doesn't this device work for me ? I'm using 2 computers, powerbook with OS X 4.10, Mac OS X 10.5.8 on my iMac and the games I've got are Doom 4,Call of Duty 4, Quake4 and this controller isn't working.....the computer does acknowledge that the controller is in the USB port but once I put the game in NOTHING happens, I'm only able to use the game controls with my keyboard and not this Logitech Dual device ...... Hmmm, so i'm not sure if the controller is broken or obsolete .....what do you GAMERS think is the issue ? I'd sure like your opinion cause I'm gonna send this controller back to Amazon if I don't learn what could be the issue of it not responding with my games.
Thanx U All ;)
