5.0 out of 5 stars Good service, good item
This replacement for a failed MacBook adapter works well, the price was excellent, delivery was prompt and packaging was appropriate. Apple charges too much for this simple item and having a significantly cheaper alternative is an example of the free market operating at its best.

The only comment I'd make is that the photo of the item in the Amazon ad may leave...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not As Advertised - This is NOT an Apple Manufactured Unit
The picture of the power adapter on the Amazon web page is of an Apple manufactured unit. What was shipped to me is a generic "power brick" style adapter, definitely NOT made by Apple. If you are expecting an Apple branded unit, do not order this one. Deceptive and misleading presentation by Amazon.

1.0 out of 5 stars THIS THING IS A FIRE HAZARD!!, October 21, 2009

I have two Powerbook G4s. Great machines!! Bought them both used in 2006. Three years later, they're both doing fine. And I'm a power user.

Over the same three years, I have had to purchase about 4 of these Apple Power Adaptors (part M8943LL/A).

Basically the same thing would happen--after 6-8 months, the part the connected to the laptop would get extremely hot (seriously, you could hot keep your hand on it for more than a second), the cable would fray and no power would be supplied. Before this happened, I'd have to twist and turn the connector and listen for a disturbing "spark" noise to before it would provide power.

2 of these things actually started smoking before they went dead. One of them burned a hole into my sofa. Luckily I was home to catch it or there would have been a major fire.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. IT IS DANGEROUS.

There are SEVERAL third party solutions, many here on Amazon. Apple could have recaptured this money by being a stand up company and making a better replacement adaptor. But, as they've recently shown, they have stars in their eyes due to the success of iPod and iPhone and no longer care about supporting their legacy users.

3.0 out of 5 stars Does the job, October 30, 2009

This product works fine and is probably worth the price. The drawbacks: 1) the cord is very short, much shorter than the Apple one it replaces; 2) It does not have the light-up feature that tells you when the computer is charging and when it is fully charged; 3) It takes the computer a minute to recognize it is charging, which is fine. But if your power goes all the way down and the computer goes into sleep mode and THEN you plug it in, it takes 5 minutes to recognize that there is charge enough to start out of sleep mode. I never had this problem with the original cord.

The only comment I'd make is that the photo of the item in the Amazon ad may leave the impression that this is an Apple product, when it is a replacement for the OEM's adapter; however, the text description ("Replacement 60-Watt... Adapter") is accurate.

Overall, very happy with this purchase.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't believe the picture!, July 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The charger arrived very quickly although the message I received said it could be anywhere between July 16th and Aug. 2nd. With that huge range, I actually ran out to the Apple store and had to purchase at full price. I couldn't be without a charge for more than a few days. The price is right for this one with shipping cost me around 35 dollars. The apple store real deal was 83 dollars with tax. Big differences on the two: The Apple store charger was about six feet longer and much much more sturdy. My biggest complaint was the fact that I was in a hurry ordering and the picture clearly shows and adapter with the Apple Symbol on it, giving the customer the belief that somehow it is an Apple product. IT IS NOT!! Your apple warranty could be null and void if something goes wrong using a product that is not apple. Read your warranty if you own a fairly new computer. I will use my True apple Charger and keep this one in my travel case as an emergency backup only. Therefore my final rating is a one star based on what I believe is deceptive advertising. My lesson learned! You get way you pay for. So to save less than 50 bucks, buy the real deal and save yourself any future problems.

Indeed the picture is not what you get; it is not Apple. In less than 2 months of careful use, the insulation had failed, exposing the wires in two places. One at where the cord joins the power brick on the laptop side, and the other failure was at the AC plug. After about 3 months, it totally failed. This is a LAPTOP power adapter, it should be able to handle reasonable wear n' tear. Meaning the cords should be able to withstand being folded up and stored for travel over and over again on a frequent basis. I never yanked on the cord or mistreated it. Also, there is not the green/amber power charging/charged light on the adapter plug, like the Apple adapter. Moreover, the adapter plug itself is cheap, and doesn't plug in firmly; the slightest tug and it comes unplugged by about 1/8" just enough to stop charging without you realizing it. I finally had to order an original Apple model, so I ended up wasting money. With this product you get less than what you pay for. If you want lots of hassle and to throw away $30ish bucks, then buy this one.

Now for something helpful ... If you already have one of these (or better yet, an Apple one) and you want to try to avoid what I experienced, then I suggest the following: Never pick up the power brick by it's cords. Even though the brick is not heavy, the connections cannot take any strain. Therefore, when moving it, pick up the brick and the cords on either side at the same time, without stressing the wires where they connect to the brick, or the plug. When folding your cord up, again you have to be very careful not to strain the "joints." Another potential problem is heat; the brick gets hot to the touch, not just warm. Make sure it is sitting on a hard surface, and in the open where it can cool. I would place mine on it's short edge to give it the most surface area available for cooling. I have the actual Apple adapter now, and it is well worth the money. My original Apple adapter ended up with the small wire fraying at the power brick, but that was after like 5 years of constant use, not 2 months. Regardless, I am treating this one with "kid gloves" as well. Good luck.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT AN APPLE CHARGER, December 9, 2009

I wanted a charger just like the one I purchased with my PowerBook G4. This isn't an Apple brand charger. I know that a few customers have uploaded pictures of what they received and THOSE ones actually look like Apple chargers. This is nothing close to what I got in the mail today. It's a generic charger. The cord from the brick to the tip is about three times as thick as the Apple one, so maybe it'll be more substantial, but I'm still a little uneasy about using anything generic.

Revision:

My husband just came home and looked at it. This charger puts out more amps than the Apple one, so that may explain some of the issues people have been having with replacement chargers (smoking, sparks, melting, etc.) I'll be returning this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick shipping, September 13, 2010

I placed my order for the charger Friday morning and I received the package the following Monday. I was very pleased with the quick shipping. I usually wait several days for items that are being shipped from the East Coast. The charger came in mint condition and was an apple product. Very happy with the price as well. Apple stores charge full price $84.

1.0 out of 5 stars KILLED MY POWERBOOK, November 18, 2009
This review is from: 65w Apple Mac Original Ac Power Adapter A1021 G4 (Personal Computers)
This thing was a piece of junk. After 2 weeks, it started making a popping noise when I plugged it in to the laptop. A day or two later, when I plugged it in for the last time, a nice little puff of smoke came from the charging module of the laptop. Now nothing will charge the battery.

I believe that this item falls into the false advertisement category and that Amazon needs to remove this company them from their site.

There are too many people who may fall for this type of trick because they are not computer savvy.
