"Apple Pie:Raising Champions" is a great film! Get it!,
This review is from: Apple Pie:Raising Champions (DVD)
"Apple Pie:Raising Champions" is a heart-warming film about the loving and trusting relationships eleven athletes have with their mothers. Director and Producer Mary Mazzio, herself an Olympian, skillfully draws incredible and charming portraits of these champions and their Moms, such as in football's Drew Bledsoe, soccer's Mia Hamm, baseball's Kenny Lofton, basketball's Shaquille O'Neal, mountain climber Eric Weihenmayer, and Olympic Greco-Wrestler Rulon Gardner, among others. I loved this film!! A must-see. You will never forget it!

Apple Pie Scores Touchdown,
By Jane Run Fast (New York) - See all my reviews

I saw this film on ESPN - and this film moved me in a way that very few other sports documentaries have. To hear the first blind climber to summit Mount Everest, Erik Weihenmayer, describe taking down sighted wrestlers (when he wrestled in high school) and comment on the impact of his mother who passed away, nearly brought me to tears. Other segments of the film were very clever and funny - from Shaquille O'Neal whose mother made him sign a contract when he purchased his motorcycle (to always wear a helmet, among other clauses in the agreement), to Grant Hill's description of his mother in the stands at a Duke game - to Olympic wrestler Rulon Gardner displaying his three-point take down on his mother... this film is moving, emotional, and often times hilariously funny. Recommend highly.
