A comical, wry journey through the silliness of college life, as seen through the eyes of a son of immigrants who wants to convince everyone that he's an American.

Editorial Reviews

About the Author

In the grand epic tradition, David Mazzotta struggled to overcome an ordinary middle-class childhood filled with public school bullies, downscale shopping malls and awkward adolescent moments in the Detroit suburb of Southfield, Michigan. While attending the University of Michigan, he worked as a bartender and a car salesman before leaving to seek glamour and excitement in Northern Virginia where he did hard time as an accountant near his nation's capital. David now lives a care-free life just outside Ann Arbor, Michigan, but sometimes wishes he were nearer the ocean. Apple Pie is his first novel. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Funny - Highly Recommended, December 26, 2000

There was a lot of laugh out loud moments in this book. So many that it was easy to miss that the characters were so thoughfully drawn. On the surface it appears to be a college life satire, and anyone familiar with college life will recognize the personality types. But there is a lot more going on. There are questions of ethnic identity, complications of friendships, and open family wounds, and the search for identity all playing together. None of this is taken too seriously, it just adds depth to the humor.

I'm looking forward to more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Entertaining! Highly recommended!!, December 28, 2001

There is a laugh on every page of this book. It's the story of a Korean-American student in his senior year in college. He is questioning everything about his life from his girlfriend to his roomates to his ethnicity. He stumbles through all sorts of misadventures with a bunch colorful characters.

The book is good at balancing satire with real emotion so although you often find yourself laughing at the events, you also find yourself identifying with the main characters. It hard to imagine anyone who has survived college won't see something of themselves in it.

I very highly recommend this book for a nice fun read.
