4.0 out of 5 stars Good read ...BUT
Good illustrations but not that easy for a DVD STudio Pro 'Dummy'. I found that I had to go to the Apple DVD Studio Pro manual from the net to work out what to do. Then, after I had a basic understanding, and a few hours of fiddling on the computer, this book came to life for me and was very useful. Particularly the project workshops.

This review is from: Apple Pro Training Series: DVD Studio Pro 4 (Paperback)
I've been in a fight w/ Apple and Peachpit over this 'new' version of DVDSP4.
I'm an Apple cert. instructor for this and other ProApps. When I started reading the new book I found the same mistakes from version 3 had been copied over to version 4.

Granted, the new compressor app is great but nowhere does it explain the new features of DVDSP4 like support for external video, VTS editing and the whole HD support. I was told by Apple and Peachpit that this version of the book was intended to be an 'revision' of the old book; however, the general advertising of this book says 'Fully Update' instead of 'Fully Revised'... a bit misleading to the people who thought this version would help instruct students on how to best use the new features. We'll have to wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Help Book, August 1, 2009

The first time I opened DVD Studio I was lost and I knew I was in over my head. Then I purchased this book and I just want to tell you that I have hit the ground running designing my own menus and buttons in less than two hours and four chapters of this book. Buy this book to unlock the secrets of DVD Studio that are unknown on the surface you will be happy that you did.....

I used this book to teach my DVD Studio Pro class at the Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University. This book presents a concise and comprehensive view into the world of DVD authoring. It is great for beginners, and provides valuable information for intermediate users as well.

The exercises in this book consist of practical use of DVD Studio Pro and applying the concepts learned to increasingly more complex situations. If you want to learn DVD Studio Pro, get this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars As a teacher, March 13, 2009
Teaching Final Cut Pro Studio 2 in college presents itself with problems that requires research and study beyond the norm. DVD Studio Pro 4, the book with DVD, has given me an edge and the ability to understand this program to a point to present it in a knowledgeable and professional way. If you want to learn more and are willing to give it the time, DVD Studio Pro 4 will give you the knowledge. Highly recommended.

This was a great book. I'm glad I bought it. It explains the many facets of DVD Studio Pro in a clear, step by step way. Before, I didn't know much about how to make DVD menus before; now that I've read DVD Studio Pro 4 manual, it's all clear to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Customizing your DVDs, December 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
While many experts believe that DVDs are on the way out, they seem to lead a remarkably robust life. For sharing your videos with family and friends, to make a demo reel, to make power-point like presentations, or to have a marketing DVD for your customers at a trade show, DVDs are great. While iDVD and similar programs allow you to use templates to quickly generate decent looking DVDs, the hand-crafted DVD remains more time-consuming. Apple's DVD Studio Pro 4 which is part of the Final Cut Pro Suite allows you to author sophisticated DVDs with videos, slide-shows, even adding .pdf text files. Sitter, Ramseier, Carman and Harrington succeed admirably in teaching the necessary steps to create great DVDs. The lessons are well designed, the media are perfect for the purpose, and the lessons are easy to follow. I found that it usually took me longer to complete the lessons than the authors estimated, but then I'm a little slow. I also like to have a textbook to fall back on to look up things when I get stuck. The online help files are sometimes not as explicit. I found this book to be very helpful.
