This advanced, Apple-certified guide to video and film color correction picks up where APTS: Advanced Color Correction and Effects in Final Cut Pro leaves off. The book assumes a basic knowledge of the mechanics of color correction, and focuses on the field-tested techniques professional colorists use to obtain superb color grading and effects in film. Extremely practical, the book works step-by-step through real-world examples of the problems and challenges colorists face most frequently. Written by video professional Alexis Van Hurkman and updated for Final Cut Pro 5, this book provides comprehensive training in the real-world color correction and management skills editing pros use every day in the field the equivalent of a five-day course in one project-based book. Each chapter presents a complete lesson in some aspect of color correction, with hands-on projects for readers to complete as they go. Readers will learn how to maximize quality when color-correcting with Final Cut Pro, scene-to-scene color matching, correcting for broadcast specifications, changing color corrections midstream, day-for-night treatments, and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable !, October 20, 2008
This review is from: Apple Pro Training Series: Encyclopedia of Color Correction / Field Techniques Using Final Cut Pro (Paperback)
As a casual but pro user of FCP - this book has proven invaluable. Its very well written and packed with useful information. Its clearly written by a pro for pros. With a no nonsens attitude it delivers real life solutions thats applicable for commercial use, and there's some tips and tricks in here I haven't seen anywhere else. Of course, a colorist or more advanced user might find this book trivial, but for someone starting with colorgrading in FCP, its invaluable.
