In case you didn't read the review title, this book helped me pass the Apple OS X Support Essentials 10.7 Exam. I also have a lot of experience working with Apple computers on a daily basis. Most of what is in this book goes beyond the skills I exercise regularly so it was very helpful as a study guide for the test. At the end of each chapter there are review questions and answers that I found to be great for reviewing the content and making sure I knew what would be asked on the exam.

The previous review is correct in that this Kindle version lacks some features that could be incredibly useful. But the content is all there and it did help me.

I took the exam using only my experience and this book and got a 91%. The testing center also offered a preparation class for the exam at the cost of around $1600. So this book was a great alternative for myself. If you don't use Macs on a regular basis I would get this book and take a prep class.

I have the OS X Snow Leopard Support Essentials book and it's almost word for word identical.
I also have an ACSP 10.6 Certification, and I bought this to help with my 10.7 ACSP Cert. ,
I probably could've gotten away with my old book, but there are some new features in Lion
that don't exist in SL that are covered here. This book, isn't really a "How to use Lion" book.
It's written more for understanding and basic troubleshooting for OS X.

If you work in IT some of the steps may be pretty basic, but it does give you a fair amount
of detail on the OS itself and how it's setup and how to navigate through the directory structure if
you haven't supported Apple computers.

I just passed the ACSP today. I must admit, it was harder than I thought but definitely you will have a great chance of passing if you read this book twice or three times and do all the exercises. There might of been five to eight questions that wasn't specifically mentioned in this book but you needed to know from experience. However, this book is not only a test prep but a good way to learn a lot of the capabilities and power of OS Lion. I wouldn't say they are hidden features but you might not know them unless you pick up this book (or if you are the type of person that just loves poking around the applications seeing what every menu and button does.) I can't really recommend this if you are brand new to macs or especially if you are brand new to computers. There are some networking sections that might lose and confuse people. I have been using computers for a while; since school, for work, and I use mac's for personal use. But this book will come in handy eventually if you are a current or potential mac user. I see myself going back to this book for reference in the future.

The one thing about this book is the price, kind of pricey and the next OS release sometime this summer '12. I didn't want to wait and I wanted to maximize my knowledge of this powerful OS and try to make a career out of it!!! Also, for the price, I would expect better graphics and screenshots.

So depending on what you are looking for, this might be a must have book. If you want to pass the ACSP the first time, then definitely get this book. If you want to support macs or become a mac genius, then this is also a must have. If you are new to macs or IT in general, then maybe start off with another book.

I had to get this particular book for certification; I might have chosen differently otherwise. There is nothing wrong with the book (content, organization, etc.), I simply wasn't wowed.

I bought this for my Mac OS X Server Essentials class and it was perfect despite it not being for Mountain Lion, since it wasn't available yet.
