Product Description

The 7.9" Retina Display makes its debut on the iPad mini, maintaining its enormous 2048 x 1536 native resolution. At 326 pixels per inch, the Retina Display can show up to 3.1 million pixels at a time. The Retina Display is also a capacitive touchscreen so you'll be able to utilize all the multi-touch gestures of iOS 7. Its smaller form factor makes it easier to hold in one hand. The iPad mini comes in a silver finish.

I already own a Google Nexus 7 tablet and was pretty happy with it, but developers of aviation apps have been slow to write apps for Android.

Just purchased this because I'm a pilot and we all get our charts on Ipads these days. I already own a Google Nexus 7 tablet and was pretty happy with it, but developers of aviation apps have been slow to write apps for Android. Since I'm an instructor and most of my students use Ipads, I decided to get one so I could teach students how to use the aviation apps.

SURPRISE! I should have done more homework...the wifi only version doesn't include a GPS! It doesn't say that in the text. So, to use my Ipad in the car or cockpit, I had to spend $90 on a DUAL XGPS150 bluetooth GPS and always carry it along. All of the Google Nexus 7's include the GPS. Lame.

Also surprising: It's heavier, bigger, and costs over twice as much as the Google Nexus 7. The Ipad may be "mini," but it doesn't fit in the hand for reading as nicely as the Nexus 7. End result is, I'll continue to use the Nexus 7 for everything at home, and lug this sucker to the airplane with the external GPS for aviation. I feel like I wasted a lot of money on an inferior product. If I could do it over again (no returns if opened), I'd have gotten the 4G version for $175 more....but of course, the product description would have needed to tell me this one doesn't have GPS, which it didn't.

Overall, I'm very disappointed. Show me the value here...there is none. Don't pay the Apple Premium!

Excellent. The updated processor and enhanced viewing quality from older versions of the iPad are worth it. I got the increased memory capacity as a gift from my brother and I do find having the 64 gig ( or whatever the call it) good to have for downloads. I always have enough room!

The iPad Mini itself is very nice. It arrived with ios 7 and was very responsive. But, after installing ios 8, the touch screen is often difficult to use. I have to press the keyboard keys, for example, only in the lower left corner of each key, and I have to press space bar several times. Some buttons work as usual, and some have to be pressed a dozen times. It was NOT that way when it first arrived. I had the Apple Store replace it, and the same thing happened again.

Up until October 2014, this iPad Mini was the most recent model, and it’s an incredibly beautiful device.

The iPad comes in several sizes (and prices) now:-

Small (Paperback book sized, but incredibly thin)
* iPad Mini (with standard display)
* iPad Mini 2 - This one. The latest fastest Mini size iPad with an HD display.
* iPad Mini 3. Released October 2014 - with the “Touch ID” - fingerprint reader and faster chip

Larger (Size of an A4 Pad of paper)
* iPad 2, 3 or 4th Generation - Full size iPads (probably best avoided)
* iPad Air - Release November 2013
* iPad Air 2 - Released October 2014. With the A8X chip and “touch id” fingerprint reader and faster chip

Oddly enough, it’s so beautifully easy to use (my one year old daughter loves playing with it), it’s almost doesn’t feel like a computer at all. I bought one for my 10 year old daughter and she absolutely loves it. We sold the previous Android tablet as it just sat in a drawer not being used.

A word of warning - this review is written for people who’ve never owned an iPad before - and are wondering what all the fuss is about. Don’t read this if you already own an iPad or Mini and are thinking about an upgrade - I’d recommend you simply buy a mini with Retina or an iPad Air.

Just what’s all the fuss about?
--------------------------------------

I used to own a laptop for work, and (very occasionally), it’d sit on my lap on the sofa, and I’d use it for pleasure (eMail, watching films or playing the odd game). Then I bought my first iPad, and the laptop became redundant, a boring “work device”.

Overall, I'm definitely satisfied, it's a great product, it looks great, feels great, and generally works fantastic.
There is a problem with it crashing though, it tends to crash about every other day, but it could be worse, it takes a decently short time to reboot and none of the apps are closed or altered when it returns to normal. For me it's not too big of a problem given I mostly use it for games and some productivity and it only goes down for about 45 seconds. I also think it is more of a problem with iOS 7 because on my iPhone it crashes about as often, so once Apple comes out with another update for the OS, the problem should be fixed, I hope. So far (about 2-3 weeks) I have had no other problems with the device, even with putting it through graphics and CPU intensive tasks. It is very fast and as long as the crashing issue isn't a problem for you it's definitely worth the money, especially if your already engrossed in the Apple ecosystem.
