3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first two
Well, Apple's third edition is just as weird as it's pre-releases but overall isn't as good as the first two released.
Though the price was $23 so I can't complain.
If you have the first two apple's then it's a must to get this one as well but some stories featured in the first two releases aren't in this one.
Still, I think anyone who likes to see great...

Apple is a Korean comics anthology, a collection of comics and illustrations from some of the top Korean illustrators around. Volume 3 continues the tradition with the usual vast variety of styles.

The only complain which I have against the volume is still the discontinuity of some stories. Not all the stories from previous volumes are continued here. It's already quite hard to follow a book that publishes yearly, even harder if the stories not continued. It's not really a big issue though.

The quality of art is really great. Most of the comic panels are lavishly painted so it's really a visual treat for anyone. There are quite a few beautiful splash pages. There are also plenty of interesting characters to look at from the comics.

My usual recommendation for Apple is still to treat it like an art book rather than a comic book to avoid disappointment.

Still, I think anyone who likes to see great art and unique stories would love to add this to their collection.
However if you under 16 I wouldn't recommend buying this at all.

This is the Third Apple book that I now own. For me, this Volume contains more unique styles than the previous two. Although, I am not intrigue or familiar with the style, I find myself less entertained. The book is still great for references, but I feel that the value of it's predecessors holds more than what this book currently has.

I purchased this book for my son who is majoring in Animation in college. He loves it and can look at it for hours, saying that there is a lot to absorb. If you're into video gaming, illustration, or animation, you'll definitely enjoy this.

He wanted a design book that included descriptions and gave him ideas for artwork. He said that many of his fellow students also own this book because it is considered to be a classic in the visual arts field.

4.0 out of 5 stars More of the same but still great art, October 4, 2009
This review is from: Apple, Vol. 3 (Paperback)
Though I can't give it a full five stars, this is still admittedly one of my favorite anthologies to come out. There were a few stories that did continue from volume 2 this time. They still have mixed paper types in this series. Sometimes the pages are matte the others are glossy. Again, one of the reasons I will forgive some of the stories, or lack there of is the art quality. What makes this so good is the variety of styles. Some would remind you of typical anime fare, others will look more close to odd pulp and pop culture.

One odd and surprising thing was to see some illustrations from Fantasy Artist Luis Royo.

The front of the book gives you an index of artists who contributed and where to find their respective websites (sometimes, again they're down or have horrible UI or unfriendly to navigate sites).

About 1/3 - 1/4 of the volume are just illustrations...or pinups more than stories. Not necessarily bad, but just a word of warning to those that think this is just back to back pages of comics or stories.

Despite this, I will probably be picking up yet another volume. It beats paying out the butt on tons of little comics monthly.
