I am writing this review with my new apple keyboard that I purchased from the Apple store because I had a gift card to use there. I also figured if I didn't like it for my ipad 2 that I would use it the Mac Mini I plan on purchasing in the next couple of days.

Pros - Beautiful design like all of the apple products. It matches well with the ipad 2 or any other mac product.
It is slim, but not overly slim. Because it is made out of aluminum it has a very solid feel.
I prefer having a separate keyboard from my ipad 2 because I have the option of leaving it at home and not lugging it around with me everywhere I go.
Using this keyboard, the iPad knows that I don't need the keypad on the screen which gives me full access to the webpage, email document, etc whereas before half of the screen was taken up by the on screen keypad.
It has a slight angle to it so it makes it more comfortable for me to use vs the flat keyboards where it is built into the ipad case. On the bottom of the keyboard, there is a rubberized feel to the battery compartment. This prevents the keyboard from sliding around on your desk if you have a slick or smooth surface.
It was super easy to set up. Apple supplies your first batch of 2 double A batteries(the new version needs only two vs the older version needed 3). and you power on the keyboard, turn on your bluetooth through settings and then pair the device. It will prompt you to type a 4 digit code into your keyboard and then hit return and then it instantly works. One attempt = success.

I have never really liked typing long emails from my ipad because i felt it was a little too awkward so I would keep my emails short. Now with this keyboard paired to my iPad 2, I feel very comfortable writing this review with the case I already purchased months ago.

It will take a few minutes to get used to typing on the keyboard and then going to touch the screen to navigate around the page. I typically associate typing on a physical keyboard with a mouse to navigate the page.

Anyways, if you do end up ordering one, make sure you get the newest version and I hope you enjoy it like I do.

I forgot to mention that I just ordered one for my mom because she loves writing emails...long ones.

Update 11/14/2011 - I still love the keyboard. No durability issues. I now use it on my mac mini everyday too.
Update 12/12/2011 - I haven't changed the batteries that Apple supplied with the keyboard and my Mac Mini says the battery remaining is 60%. I never power the keyboard down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Apples to Apples October 22, 2011

Apple's wireless keyboard paired with Apple's iPad 2? Of course they make a great pair. I already have a beautiful case for my iPad and wasn't interested in getting a keyboard that was integrated into a case. My main use with the keyboard will be extending the usefulness of the iPad for writing when I am home. That being said, I wanted a keyboard small enough so that if I did want to pop it into a bag and take it with me it wouldn't take up very much room. This keyboard is perfect! Don't let it's compact size ([EDIT 7/10/11 - THE LENGTH IS 11.125" - sorry for the previous typo] x 5 1/8"w x 3/4" - at the back, most of it is only 1/8" deep) fool you. This is a full function keyboard. Setup was a breeze. I just turned it on, made sure bluetooth was turned on on the iPad, and watched the little lights blink as the two peices of equipment said hello and got aquainted. Screen brightness, volume and play/pause/track are all controllable with the keyboard. To go back to the iPad's screen keyboard just use the eject button on the wireless keyboard. Apple's iPad 2 and Wireless Keyboard clearly recognize each other as two peices of fruit from the same family tree.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for Cat Owners September 3, 2011

My desk at home is crowded. (It is actually a breakfast bar at the moment.) I already had a very nice wireless Logitech keyboard made for the Mac (no longer available) but I couldn't turn it off. You see, our cats like to walk on the breakfast bar while we are out or asleep. Many mornings, I've come out to find that they have been attempting to chat with their Facebook friends, access my bank accounts and shop Amazon for kitty toys. When I caught them going to feline dating sites, that was when I decided that I needed a keyboard I could switch off at night.

My boss has the older version of this keyboard at work (the one that takes three batteries I believe) so I played with it and decided I could live with the smaller keyboard. Amazon delivered this quickly, saving me a trip to Apple store or Walmart, and for the same price.

The only trouble that I've had with it is getting used to the size. I rarely use the internal keyboard of my MacBook Pro 17". It is in a docking station at home and at work, most always with the lid closed. As a touch typist, I don't look at the keyboard except to use the keys like launchpad, volume, etc. So for some reason my left hand wants to position itself on key to the left of where it should go. After a week of use however, it is starting to fall in the correct position.

Typing on it is really no different than typing on the notebook keyboard. It has a good feel to it though I long for the days of the IBM M "click" keyboard. But not enough to pay $300+ for the current equivalent.

I don't miss the numeric keypad found on my full size keyboards. For whatever reason I just don't use that as much as I did years ago, so the loss of it hasn't really had an impact on me.

Besides being able to power down the keyboard to keep our cats in line, this keyboard and my "Magic Track Pad" or whatever Apple calls it fit into my computer bag taking up almost no room and adding very little weight. As a result, when I go into the office, all three devices (the notebook is included) go with me.
