I opted for the wireless keyboard and mouse when I bought my new iMac a couple months ago, and have been happy with the decision.

I'm a slacker, do-nothing type who sits in front of the computer all day, and when I'm away, my husband fills those shoes. I didn't replace the batteries in the mouse until today, and have yet to change the batteries in the keyboard. I don't know what people are doing to run through their batteries so fast (cough*pron*cough), but 6+ hours/day for two months without a battery switch is a pretty good rate for me.

Also, I have to beg to differ on one more topic: the wireless mouse DOES HAVE TWO-BUTTON CAPABILITIES! Either hold down the mouse about a half second longer, while clicking, to bring up the right-button options; or, for a quicker response, hold down the control button while clicking. It may not have the actual two-button design, but it does the job, and it does so without crumbs between unnecessary buttons.

My one problem is that it doesn't appear to have a scroll feature, though I may just not know of it yet. I won't start hopping up and down, screaming crazy mumbo jumbo, though, until I know for sure. That's just one of the perks of being a rational human being, which I enjoy daily while clicking away at my wireless mouse.

Perhaps you would enjoy this, too.

Got the mouse -- with a beautiful new iMac G5 20'' computer -- in March. The mouse ate through a set of two AA batteries about every two weeks. I got sick of this soon enough and called Apple, where the techs acknowledged it was a problem and tried to find remedies. Nothing they suggested improved things, so I eventually got Apple to swap out the mouse for a new one, on the mutual assumption it was defective. That was a useless move though: the new mouse consumed batteries at precisely the same rate. I called Apple again a few days ago and a customer service rep now told me that the company considers the mouse performance "normal." I asked her if SHE'd considered it normal herself to buy a 60-dollar mouse that takes almost fifty dollars a year -- to run. I asked if competing wireless mice have the same problem, and if she, as a consumer, would consider it acceptable to be stuck with a mouse whose voracious power requirements are unadvertised. She mumbled that she wasn't at liberty to speculate. Beware. This mouse doesn't cost 60 bucks. If you hold onto it for four years before you get a new computer, it will have cost you a total of 250 dollars, or half the purchase price of a Mac mini. Ridiculous but true.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cool looking, but not much else, February 3, 2005
This review is from: Apple Wireless Mouse (M9269Z/A) (Personal Computers)
This mouse looks great, goes perfect with the rest of my Mac setup and is enough to get me by. But apart from the looks, this mouse does not really have a lot more going for it. In fact, it has several drawbacks:

- Only one button and no scroll wheel. This is a known drawback of all Apple mice. The right-click is really useful and allows you to work faster. But beyond that, the fact that the entire front part of the mouse is the actual button makes it a little hard to control when dragging items.

- Poor battery life. I use my Mac an average of 5 hrs a day, and I have had to replace the batteries every couple of weeks. I tried to use rechargable batteries but they only last a few days.

- Slow response. While you are tracking, the response actually isn't bad. But when you stop and try to move the mouse again, there is a small delay before it actually starts to move. This is probably no big deal for business applications, but trying to play a fast paced FPS game with it is no fun.

- Small. I have average sized hands and I find the mouse a little too small for comfort. It's nothing I can't get used to, but a larger size would make my experience a lot more enjoyable. I also own a Logitech MX700 mouse that I use with my Windows PC and the level of comfort is beyond comparison.

I love Apple and most of the products they make, but I hope they get their act together and release a decent line of mice once and for all!

UPDATE: I have two apple Computers in my home with a Bluetooth mouse each. Over the past eight months I've had to replace both of them twice because they just stop working all of a sudden. Stay away from this product and save yourself a headache.

Yea, it looks cool, and matches the ibook (not so much my PowerBook) and the style of the rest of the apple line, but all in all, the only thing good about this mouse is that its wireless. The batteries run out at least once a month, and it only has one button. It integrates well with the computer and works great, but Id rather opt for a two-button, scroll wheel mouse that doesnt match my desktop. If you're willing to spend $69 on a cool looking mouse (this mouse used to be $69), check this one out (http://www.macmice.com/themousebt.html). Happy clicking!

4.0 out of 5 stars Apple's mouse loses its tail, January 1, 2005
This review is from: Apple Wireless Mouse (M9269Z/A) (Personal Computers)
First, note that this mouse, like all Apple mice, has a single button. It's for the old-school Mac user for whom a single button is all-powerful. If you've recently come over to the Mac from a PC or Unix workstation, this mouse is not for you. Look at the Logitech or other non-Apple rodents.

Now that they've left...the Apple Wireless Mouse is identical in form to the optical, USB Pro Mouse, minus the cable. With batteries inserted, it's a little heavier. The click tension adjustment has only two settings, down from three, and is now hidden inside the battery cover. Single-use lithium batteries are included, alkaline AAs will work;the eco-conscious should look into AA-size NiMH rechargeables. I'm currently using the ones from my digital camera.

Tracking is typical of an optical mouse. Response time to movement and clicks are not noticeably different from a wired mouse.

Setup is easy under Panther with the Apple Bluetooth assistant. My PowerBook had an older version of the Bluetooth firmware installed, which caused it to drop the connection every time it went to sleep. Upgrading to firmware version 1.2 solved this. Since then, it's behaved exactly like a corded mouse; it even wakes the Mac from sleep when clicked.

3.0 out of 5 stars pros and cons...as with all things in life, March 8, 2007
This review is from: Apple Wireless Mouse (M9269Z/A) (Personal Computers)
I bought my mac almost 2 years ago and got this mouse seperately as the wired version had too short a cord. I use my mac for about 5-8 hours day and haven't had any issues with battery life in this mouse. I've changed the batteries 3 times in 2 years, so my average battery life has been 8 months.

I don't play games on my mac. I do audio and video editing using Apples Final Cut Studio v5, as well as digital photography editing using Adobe CS2 for Mac, and do my own web designing using Studio 8. So I'm using this one button mouse for everything and find it quite sufficient. I also own the Mighty Mouse, the upgrade version of this mouse. I don't like Mighty Mouse. the scroll wheel is the size of a green pea, and just as unpredictable. The multi-button features contort my wrist in several positions which most people may not have an issue with, but I've got carpal tunnel issues and it hurts!
This mouse is not ergonomically friendly. It also agrivates my carpal tunnel. I have a wrist rest that aliviates a majority of this.

Overall, not a bad mouse. Not the best in the world, but not bad. If you want a mouse for gaming that has multi-buttons, etc there are numerous models out there that manufaturers are making for both mac and pc compatibility and are reasonably priced, unlike the Mighty Mouse which mothballed this version and costs $30 more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected, December 29, 2005
This review is from: Apple Wireless Mouse (M9269Z/A) (Personal Computers)
After reading many reviews and even going into several stores and looking at other wireless mice I decided to just bite the bullet and get the Apple device. I am so glad that I did! My girlfriend and I have been driving apple computers for about 5 years now (why would anyone waste their money on anything else?) So the one button thing does not affect us at all.
I recently bought a "12 PowerBook and after about a week of the track-pad I decided that I needed an external mouse, at least for home. It is so awesome! Once I had set it up(very easy to do with the setup assistant) I just leave it on the desk when I take the PowerBook away and when I bring the PowerBook back home it takes a few moments to recognize it but it its a snap to get it back again. As far as the tracking goes, I see no difference between this and our other apple mice, except that there is no cord to get in the way! I have had it for about a month and the original lithium batteries seems still be going strong. I recommend this to anyone who likes the simplicity of the apple mouse. If you are used to the two button, scroll wheel action I don't think its for you, no matter how well it performs or how cool it looks.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fat Mouse, July 30, 2005
This review is from: Apple Wireless Mouse (M9269Z/A) (Personal Computers)
For those who are used to Apple's wired mouse, be warned that its wireless cousin is a completely different animal. I like that there's no mouse cable to get tangled, but the wireless mouse is a bit overweight. Sure, it looks so sleek and attractive like the regular mouse, but the wireless version has two batteries shoved up its underside which makes it feel H-E-A-V-Y.

1.0 out of 5 stars hate it, April 15, 2005
This review is from: Apple Wireless Mouse (M9269Z/A) (Personal Computers)
Since I first got this mouse, it periodically freezes up if I have been away from my desk for an hour or more. When I come back to my computer, the mouse doesnt connect with the computer and I cant use it. The only thing that restores the connection is to restart my computer. Not cool.

I called Apple support about this problem and they said that whenever I cam going to be away from my desk, I need to flip over the mouse and turn it off. This "solution" is a pain in the (...) for two main reasons - 1) it is inconvenient and hard to remember to do considering no other mouse I have ever used has required this of me and 2) it doesnt work anyway. When I DO remember to turn the mouse off and then I return to my computer and turn the mouse back on - it still doesnt connect. Jeesh.

Save yourself the hassle and the extra $30 and stick to the old fashioned cable mouse.

Oh yeah - the mouse requires batteries and you have to replace them about every 3 months.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Wireless Mouse With Bluetooth Convenience, October 7, 2006

This review is from: Apple Wireless Mouse (M9269Z/A) (Personal Computers)
One year ago I purchased this mouse for use with my PowerBook G4, and I have to say it's one of the best computer peripherals I've ever owned. For starters, Apple has done an excellent job on the mouse's simple yet elegant design, which complements the look of my PowerBook. The optical eye that detects movement has been very reliable on a number of surfaces. The mouse is a joy to travel with, since a sliding cover on the bottom shuts the mouse off while at the same time protecting the optical eye. A two level tension adjustment system allows you determine how much pressure you actually need to put on the mouse to make it click. This is a great feature that I've only seen about on this type of mouse.

The Bluetooth feature was INCREDIBLY easy to use. All I had to do was turn the mouse on, click it a few times, and within seconds my computer recognized the mouse. In the past I've had a lot more trouble getting USB mice to work with a computer. The Bluetooth connection was always reliable, and I have never had a problem with the connection, even when other Bluetooth devices were near my computer. Other wireless USB mice require you to plug a wireless adapter into a USB port to communicate with the mouse, the Bluetooth system on this Apple mouse means the only thing you need for it to work is the mouse, and you don't need to occupy any extra ports.

Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking for a simple, high quality mouse, with the extraordinary convenience of wireless Bluetooth.
