Needing a webcam for my Apple desktop, I looked at various models, from the cheapest to more costly. Being a Mac user I really thought the Apple iSight would be the best match, since Apple generally has excellent products. (After some difficulties with the seller - it was supposed to come with stand and attachments, plus USB/Firewire cable, which I later bought separately elsewhere), the iSight was hooked up, software and upgrade installed, and VOILA!!! Ready to go.
Not so fast. First, the angle of view is much narrower than expected. In normal photography I would guesstimate it is a 55+ degree lens, meaning it borders on a slight tele-photo. For a decent view, the camera needs to be placed about 4-5ft. away. Next, the image is darkish/greenish. Maybe a defective camera? Maybe a previously-set setting by former owner? To make things worst, unfortunately Apple does not include preference settings and/or color adjustments. A very bad sign indeed. As it stands, the camera is useless. To add salt to injury, Apple no longer supports its iSight, and taking it to the Apple store or an independent Apple outfit would cost too much to warrant anything.
So, I went and purchased the Logic webcam. Ah!!!!! Should have done it from the outset. Nice, bright, wide angle, beautiful.
Good-Bye iSight. Won't miss you.
