Then again though, the cost to fix a Mac mini without it is astronomical. I GUARENTEE that ANY repair you need will wind up costing significantly more.

The simple fact that this unit is as small and compact as it is makes it extremely difficult and pricey to work on. You'd be doing yourself a favor to pick this up and let Apple take care of it.

The REAL value here is that AppleCare also covers any questions you might have regarding the software that's included on the unit (OS X, iLife, etc). That's an invaluable service on a unit that was designed to switch people over from a windows based system.
