Appleworks 6 for Dummies,
This review is from: AppleWorks 6 for Dummies (Paperback)
Appleworks 6 for dummies is great. Apple has manuals stored in Appleworks 6 but they get in the way of what you are trying to do. Having the book handy makes it a great asset for any Appleworks 6 owner. Easy step by step instructions.Great read and a must have help book.

This book really is for dummies. It explains Appleworks 6 well, and if you're new to Appleworks in general or if you are only familiar with Appleworks 5, this is definitely the book for you.

I think Apple is selling people a pig in a poke with iWork. Appleworks is a much more useful and Human Factors friendly program.
I can easily drag and drop images from Photoshop to the draw program. I can either drag and drop or copy graphics and paste back and forth between the word processing program and the drawing program. I can take any Appleworks file, make a PDF, then import it to Photoshop and modify it like any other jpeg or Photoshop file, and then if I want I can drag it back to a Appleworks file. I particularly did like the fact I could never get line spacing by points in Pages word processing program. As a former Typographer from the days of hand set and hot metal type, I don't like to use 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc. line spacing. It does no cut it for me. I like the precision of 72 points per inch. I guess if I wasn't a printer in one of my previous careers. it might not matter so much. I have tried to learn Adobe Illustrator, but combination of the various Appleworks programs and Photoshop does everything I need to do with graphics. I personally think that the inspector in Pages is a very complicated and unnecessary item compared to the way you change formats, fonts, etc. in Appleworks. Then the way you select shapes in Pages is atrocious. I never have found out how to draw an irregular polygon in Pages. Hooray for Appleworks. Long Live Appleworks!!!

Bob LeVitus & Dennis Cohen are Mac legions. AppleWorks 6 is one of the last great Apple programs aimed at people who just want to get a job done. Those lucky enough to get a G-4 iBook will have this program on it. Like an old Chevy Caprice it will take most people where they want to go and last much longer then Apple & Steve Jobs wanted it to. This book along with Todd Stauffer & Dennis Cohen's Apple PowerBook and iBook Digital Field Guide will allow most to last beyond the time Apple runs out of cats.
