In the original garden, the forbidden fruit was the knowledge of good and evil. In Katrina Carlson's version, however, it seems the perfect fruit is the ripening of a lifetime struggle for emancipation, and it is all good.

Apples for Eve is a lyrical journey celebrating the arrival of liberation and freedom. Katrina Carlson's self-produced CD examines many of the big questions; life, death, pain, joy, suffering, delight, perseverance and personal integrity. Somehow she has woven together utter vulnerability with unwavering strength. Her premiere CD defies the notion that non-signed artists lack the sophistication and elegance afforded established performers. On the contrary, Apples for Eve has a production value that rivals and often exceeds top 10 pop productions released by major labels. Along with her producer Rob Cohen, Katrina offers a musical gift that enhances the taut lyric, driving home her sincere heartfelt expression.

The music itself is in the pop tradition yet resonates with the deep echoes of a trained voice singing with controlled precision and absolute conviction. I could not help to compare her sound to Sarah Brightman, minus the fanfare.

I love Carlson's music, especially the songs where her wonderfully lyrical voice shines through. After ordering one for myself I ordered another for a friend.
