5.0 out of 5 stars A great Dickerson family history, January 18, 2010

This review is from: Apples of the Mummy's Eye: The Dickerson Sisters (Paperback)
I bought this book just for fun and found it charming and intriguing. There is so much time to cover that it would be nice to have some indepth stories written on particular subjects. I would really like to know how they taught themselves their art. That is not easy to learn on your own. I was fascinated by the pine needle baskets. I admired the family for finding their own way in surviving hard times. I was especially glad to read about the hummingbird project of banding the little birds. I liked to read the way the community helped the family and also how they helped themselves. I was sad to read the sisters did not marry, but then this story probably would not have been written. Their dependence on each other to keep the property working was essential. I admire Alice for going to Alaska (more than once) and seeing another area of the natural world she had not seen before. I collect books about strong women pioneers and their leadership.
