Gleanings from the Mystical Teachings of Rabbi Yitzchak Luria - the Arizal - on the Weekly Torah Portion Translated by: Rabbi Moshe Wisnefsky

The Torah (Bible) has a revealed as well as an esoteric dimension. The revealed side of the Written and Oral Torah, has been transmitted since the giving of the Torah at Sinai. The words of the Torah are like vessels containing the light, condensing it to fit their size and quality. Yet, since the mysteries of the Torah are the very essence of the Infinite Light, the finite quality of the way the words appear cannot represent this source of wisdom in all its complexity. - a seeing with the heart, which means a direct perception of the ideas is required for this understanding.

Rabbi Yitzchak Luria (1534-1572), known as the Arizal, is the central figure of Kabbalah as it is studied today. The Arizal explained that the mysteries of the Torah are a "Kabbalah"- literally "something that is received". It is not a knowledge that can be attained through the finite quality of the letters, but a perception that must be "received" from a master who himself received from one before him. The perception of the esoteric tradition is then a merging of spirits with the Divine which, by its very essence, cannot be condensed into letters.

The Arizal unfolds before us a hidden dimension of the stories and laws of the Torah, showing how they reflect the inner dynamics of reality and how our knowledge and observance of the Torah is crucial to the proper functioning of creation.

In this book, the reader is offered a selection of these teachings. They are presented with interpolated explanations that clarify the original text's terse prose and a commentary that shows how these sometimes obscure teachings can be applied to everyday life.

It is said that the Arizal opined after his passing that if he had lived 2 more years he would have perfected the world. Glimpsing into just a snippet of his wisdom makes one's face shine and smile ear to ear. This translation is incredibly easy to read and follow given the difficulty of the subject matter which is significant. The notes are very helpful, I would however suggest that Jews who read this prepare themselves a little bit in the understanding of Lurianic Kabbalah perhaps through Chabad's Kabbalah website [...] or through other authentic texts in order to 'get their feet wet' and to be able to follow the terminology used in this very very holy text. Blessed are you who have found this book. Do not hesitate, it is a book of Infinite Rewards. Hatzlacha and Bracha. Moshiach Now!

I have read many kabbalah related books, and from many diferent authors, maybe this was the time for me to read, this book. Please read it, it will change your life, however, you need some introduction to kabbalah, but from my point of view it's a minimum, again the value of this book it's more that the asked price.
