A unique and valuable reference,

This review is from: Apples for the Twenty-First Century (Hardcover)
This book is an apple variety description book, but rather than describing the usual thousands of varieties the author only describes what he thinks are the best all-around apples, and the descriptions are much more detailed than the usual necessarily short ones that are put in the encyclopedic books. I have found the book a valuable reference tool. I would disagree with the other reviewer that states it is outdated; it has the best of the newest varieties in it with only one or two good ones missing or not completely enough described. The author also ignores the heirloom vs modern apple issue and simply focuses on the best apples to grow, old or new.

This type of book is outdated as soon as published. In this case the author has done a thorough job that is fair. But it is now time for someone to write an updated version.
