Apples to oranges, but this camera costs $419 and the Nikon 3100 DSLR costs $476. Don't you get 10 times the camera with the 3100?

it boils down to size. My wife took me to her office christmas party and I had to wear a suit. Imagine strapping a DSLR along with a nice suit. It'll look odd. but a small p&s can be tucked away in her small purse or I can even walk around in my hand, I bet no one would even notice.

Look at the cost of any DSLR once you add on a F 1.8 zoom lens!
Aside from the physical size difference, it costs a lot more to have a fast lens on a DSLR.
