Get A Real Review Book Instead,
By Parker's Mom (NY, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Appleton & Lange Review of Pharmacy (Paperback)
This book is great for quizzing you so you know what subjects to brush up on. THe CD can also get you used to the CAT format. But having taken the NAPLEX after using this book and several others, you will never see these questions on the NAPLEX. The chances of seeing the same question is almost zilch. Its better to know your key subjects well (HTN, DM, HIV, etc) then learn facts here and there about everything. That's what this book does for you. Its a compilation of specific questions. I recommend a review book such as APHA's Comprehensive Pharmacy Review, or Kaplans Naplex review instead.

Good Reference Book,
By Dave (TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Appleton & Lange Review of Pharmacy (Paperback)
I purchased the last edition of this book, but decided more people would read the review for this edition. The book is an excellent review of Pharmacy. Note that I did not say an excellent review for the NAPLEX. This book has more information than you will need to pass the exam. However, if you are worried about your skills or would like to brush up this is an excellent reference. Try not to get too hung up on the questions you miss. Also advice for students taking the NAPLEX soon, don't take the pre-NAPLEX. It's a waste of 50 dollars. Chances are you'll pass the NAPLEX look at the statistics.

Wonderful assistance,
This review is from: Appleton & Lange Review of Pharmacy (Paperback)
I studied this book from cover to cover and from cover to cover again while I awaited my exam date. Once I got started on the actual NAPLEX the questions were almost elementary after having gone through the somewhat rigorous questions found in this guide. The CDrom test is handy but ultimately once you have taken it once the test doesn't change and is therefore useless. I suggest this study tool and can't emphasize enough how much it made the actual exam easy.

This book is great for figuring out what topics you need to work on. I would recommend using this book and the CD-ROM first, and then using your class notes, APHA or Kaplan book to work on your weaknesses. The NAPLEX changed in 2005. This book may have been enough back then, but not anymore. STUDY TIPS: All you need is a month or less. Make sure you study brand-generics, calculations, HIV, chemo, and all major disease states (DM, HTN, etc...). The test was more hospital based than I expected, so review your rotation binders. I used this and the Kaplan book and I passed easily. Good luck!

Getting into the nitty-gritty chapter of your life,

This book immediately gets into the nuts & bolts of the pharmacotherapeutics with cool questions plus amazing rationales. My advice? Study your school lecture notes & review this book at the same time and you'll be amazed at what you've achieved in a month's time.

The questions in this book might not necessarily be the same questions on the NAPLEX, but they get your mind in exam mode. My recommendation would be to use this book+Pharmacology (by Lippencott) and study for 2 months prior to your exam. Go through this book by section, answer the questions, and review ALL the wrong and right answers (they are provided). The questions are nicely organized and the CD was extremely helpful. If I had to the the "Boards" again, I would use this book to study. It provides a ton of useful information and the questions are very good. I highly recommend this book.

Very good review book,

I've used this book while studying for my Boards in 2007. Now, being a licensed pharmacist, I recommend it to all my students. In particular, reviewing all the cases at the end of the book DO HELP tremendously in preparing yourself for the actual NAPLEX format questions.

questions too indepth compared to the NAPLEX,

This review is from: Appleton & Lange Review of Pharmacy (Paperback)
I've been out of school for 14 years and erroneously believed the NAPLEX was more clinical than it was 14 years ago. I just took it in July 2005 and I can NOT believe how basic the questions are!!! this book will give you a good idea of your area of weakness. The few "clinical" questions in the NAPLEX were so elementry, I can't believe I wasted all that time and money on APHA's plus Appleton & Lange pharmacy review questions book as well as Kaplan's q-bank questions. I've been specializing in oncology for the past few years and I was not familiar with any of the new drugs on the market. Of the over 2000+ "test" questions between all 3 study aids, there were about 5 in my NAPLEX. I do a lot of calculations in my area of practice so I guess the study aids can help those who need help in pharmacy math. There were quite a few calculations in the "clinical" part. If I had taken this test last year without "studying", I believe I would had done just as well. If you were awake while practicing or in school...the NAPLEX is a piece of cake. There were quite a few 120+ scores. I wish someone would had informed me.

Excellent,

Book was listed as used, but in brand new condition. I was surprised it had no markings, included the CD, and looked like it wasn't even used. I got a good deal on it and got the book earlier than expected. Great job!
