Disclaimer: I did review this book for Erin - she is a very good friend of mine - I also am in the medical profession (board certified internal medicine hospitalist) - and this is what I loved about this book:

1. Nice introduction and overview of the profession - with a discussion of how it differs from nurse practitioners and other medical professional fields - it's easy to read, and doesn't assume knowledge of the profession as some books do - I remember back when I was applying to medical school - it was really hard to find a book which talked in general about some of the basics of what the profession did - sometimes it was so specific, when all I really wanted was a forest from the trees perspective.

2. Great compilation of all the schools offering P.A. programs - their costs, contact information, etc.: while some people might say, oh well, you can just get that off the internet, and compile it together yourself - while that is true, it drains so much time - if your shoes were as busy as mine your junior and senior years of college - or even if you're in the workplace - you don't need to be "wasting" time trying to find contacts and information - you just want the information - I can't tell you how frustrating it was when I was applying to grad programs of just finding the correct contact, and navigating through the web pages - granted most sites are very user friendly - but it still requires time going through the sites - usually starting out at the university's home page, then searching through their categories, finding out the program, and then finally getting the contact information - the list itself is worth the book - because time is one of your most valuable assets when you're thinking about applying, what you want to do with your life, etc.

As a future applicant to PA school, I bought this book for two reasons. Primarily, I was hoping it would give me more information about the profession so that I could augment my knowledge of the field and also speak intelligently about it during interviews. Secondly, I was interested in any tips the author had about the application process, as I've never been through it before.

After reading the book, I was satisfied on both counts. The author provides a great basic overview of the profession, and I feel much more educated about it now. Furthermore, I gleaned a number of useful tips that will really help me when I apply. For that alone, this book is worth the money.

As an applicant I found this book very helpful. It provided tips for all aspects of the application process, especially what happens if you don't get in the first time. It was a useful tool to view all the schools including those not using CASPA. The book was well written, organized, and helpful. Worth the price!

I was recommended to use this book by a friend of the author when I was transitioning from choosing med school to applying to PA school. I was initially hesitant, but once I read the book I was very surprised. Though the book has a bland cover, the writing is succinct, clear and very informative. The book not only supplies enough information to introduce the paradigm that PA schools use for selecting their students, but also arms the reader with details beyond just acceptance and beyond just the dry parts of how to use CASPA and what the whole process will entail. Overall, I wished the book was a bit longer because the depth and information of the book left me intrigued to learn more, but I think it is a great start to introduce the uninitiated into the world of PA applications.

I felt that this book provided an adequate amount of information for anyone considering a career as a physician assistant. The book gave detailed information about the hands-on requirements for the field and how to go about filling the CASPA application. I especially felt that the information about the personal statement was helpful; and the description of how the profession came to be was great. This is a great book for people who are interested in becoming a physician assistant.

This book was a very helpful guide and an easy read. The table of contents was extensive allowing me to go directly to the topic of interest. All the PA schools in the US were listed. The author did a great job of putting available information all in one place!

The author spoke from first hand experience with up to date information. I am in the decision making process and I found this book to be excellent!
