Book Description

April 1, 1998
VisualAge for Java Enterprise is the first enterprise-aware, incremental Java application development environment designed to connect Java clients to existing server data, transactions, and applications. VisualAge for Java Enterprise provides connectivity to enterprise servers on top of the functions of VisualAge for Java Professional. The professional version provides the visual programming paradigm; a workbench with edit, incremental compile, and debug; and an automatic version control system.

The enterprise access builders include a Data Access Builder for JDBC applications that connect to relational databases, an RMI Access Builder that enables construction of distributed Java applications, a CICS Access Builder for applications that invoke CICS transactions, and a C++ Access Builder for applications that invoke C++ server code.

This IBM Redbook demonstrates a practical approach to using VisualAge for Java Enterprise. A sample ATM bank application is used throughout the book to illustrate the use of the enterprise access builders.

IBM Redbooks are expert "how to" guides written by an international team of IBMers who have spent years supporting customers and their IT needs. The books are filled with their hands-on experiences in developing, implementing and integrating IT solutions. You'll read about the challenges they faced, tips they uncovered, and innovative solutions they developed for a wide variety of technologies. IBM Redbooks are produced by the IBM International Technical Support Organization (ITSO)

VisualAge for java is one of the most powerlful development environments for those interested in truly multi-platform "100% pure java" development.

It is no surprise that it is also one of top sellers. This book complements the scarce docs nicely.
