Editorial Reviews

Review

"This is a book of exceptionally high quality that is essential in the libraries of healthcare organization leaders." (Doody's Publishing, 5/02)

Review

"John Glaser has done the field a huge favor. He has produced a streetwise, accessible, and interesting book on a complex subject. Hospital board members and CEOs should read this book carefully before making major investment decisions in information technology." — Jeff Goldsmith, president, Health Futures, Inc.

"Information technology can be used to differentiate a health care organization, but it is particularly compelling when the advances in technology result from a commitment to improve the care processes of the organization. The Strategic Application of Information Technology in Health Care Organizations, Second Edition, describes with clarity an effective way to ensure success in this quest, with specific recommendations and deliverables." — Stephanie L. Reel, chief information officer and vice provost for information technologies, The Johns Hopkins University

"John Glaser's book is a relief in the post-dot-com era. He brings us back to the basic lessons about how to deliver value from IT investments and how IT can fulfill and enhance the strategy of the health care enterprise." — David Brailer, chairman and chief executive officer, CareScience

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book on healthcare IT management, October 11, 2008

This review is from: The Strategic Application of Information Technology in Health Care Organizations (Jossey-Bass Health Series) (Hardcover)
I admire Dr. Glaser's work on healthcare IT. The book is probably the best one on healthcare IT management out there thought I am expecting a new edition. Its layout is not textbook like and it is a short one. I like how it covers alignment of business and IT with many types of practical governance mechanisms. The best part is Dr. Glaser goes to the core of medicine - variability and innovation forces- and how healthcare IT systems for providers are challenged. It reminds us that EMR, CPOE, and many other applications are not the goal but just means to achieve the goal. By reading the Partner Health's case, it shows a good IT governance and strategic planning is required for the successful realization of these systems which eventually attribute the core business values
