I've been to many Christian bookstores, purchased (and returned) a few bibles online, talked to friends, scoured publishers websites, read many reviews (including the Christian Research Institute and How to Choose a Translation for All Its Worth: A Guide to Understanding and Using Bible Versions), and have finally concluded and found THE best-of-the best study Bibles currently available and THIS is it.

The NIV is the most read and most trusted Bible translation today. The Life Application Study adds helpful introductions to each book, timelines, statistics, overviews, megathemes, verse-by-verse notes, explanatory notes, maps, charts, diagrams, profiles of Bible people, and background on the time between the two testaments. This Bible uses the NIV cross reference system and includes an index and dictionary/concordance. This Bible's text is in an easy-to-read single column format while the verse-by-verse notes are in a smaller, different text in two columns at the bottom of each page. Additional explanatory notes and profiles are set apart nicely as well. The words of Jesus Christ are in red letter.

Although the description does not say so, this specific item has BOTH the higher grade genuine leather cover AND the indexed thumb tabs with the abbreviations of the books to make them easier to find. It is burgundy with golden-gilded page edges and a burgundy ribbon marker. The ISBN is 0310934028 and the Amazon discount price on a retail price of $89.99 cannot be beat (I got mine at $57 but I have noticed that the price point does change up and down). When your Bible comes, *IF* it does *NOT* have the thumb tabs, please check the ISBN and then exchange it for the right product (it appears that there may be occasional fulfillment challenges with Amazon on this product).

If there were one book I would hope everyone could own, this would definitely be it!

I really like this Bible. The translation is very easy to read (no "thou shalt"s) and cross-references to other passages as well as questions and explainations about what you're reading to help you understand the subject at hand better. Jesus' spoken words are in red also.
I really recommend this Bible, and for even faster look-up the thumb-indexed version also.

This book was shipped in perfect condition and in a timely matter. I am very pleased with the thumbtabs and the study guides on each page. Beautiful book for yourself, family, or friends. It is worth every penny!

Having used the NIV Life Application Study Bible before, I knew this is what I was looking for. Our original copy was a hardcover edition, which had been mauled some years ago by our beloved Shepherd mix. It held up pretty well for quite a long time, but it was due to be replaced.

This version has a quality leather cover that seems like it will last a really long time. It has thumb-indexes and a ribbon marker, both of which I was really hoping for when I started looking for a replacement.

As a resource tool is where this bible really shines. Notes are extensive (for what seems like nearly every verse), taking the majority of the space on some pages. Besides the personality profiles, each book starts with an in-depth introduction, important facts, an outline, as well as major themes addressed. The words of Christ are in red-letter. It contains cross-references, footnotes, a dictionary/concordance, an index, reading plans, and more.

I haven't seen anything better at any price. Highly recommended.

While the description does not include it, this bible (ISBN 0310934044) is AWESOME! It is Top-Grain Leather (NOT bonded, as in the picture), and is also indexed! It is beautiful, and everything I had hoped it would be!

I find this Bible to be the most easily understood with the application notes and foot notes,besides the profiles and all the other info is great.

Really Nice Bible, bought one for a Birthday gift, then ordered one for myself after seeing it!!! LOVE the study notes!

This is an excellent study Bible for anyone wanting to in one book get a study guide along with the Word of God. I would recommend it without hesitation.

This is a great study Bible,I only wish I had got one with large print,but with glasses that is not a big deal..I would recommend it highly.

The Life Application Bible is a great way to study the Bible...many great helps to explain sections and make good applications. The NIV version of the Bible is easy to read while maintaingin the original meaning.
