Yes, yes yes! I received this from a friend. I never used to read the Bible -- too boring, couldn't understand, etc...that is until this came along! Very interesting to read and keeps my attention. I recommend this to any new Bible reader. Don't let anyone tell you that this version isn't "official." Bunk. If you've been looking into reading the Bible, this is THE ONE!!!

I purchased this bible because of the ease of understanding the New Living Translation. It has great footnotes that help to apply the passages to events and circumstances in our lives today. The concordance/dictionary is sufficient. There are maps throughout the bible, that really help show the geographic areas of bible events. I especially recommend this bible for those who have a hard time understanding bible language. The New Living Translation is in today's language.

This is an excellent modern English translation which i would recommend to anyone. The study notes in this version are for the most part of good quality and there are versions of this bible without the study notes if that is your preference. I find that this bible provides an excellent complement to my other bible, The New Jerusalem Bible (with footnotes). The NLT is written using language which is more accessible than the NJB while the NJB (with footnotes) provides a translation which appears to better reflect the underlying, original, text from which it is drawn. Depending upon one's tastes either is sufficient, i happen to find that the two together complement each other in a manner which aids me in understanding the underlying meaning.
