Book Description

The objective of this book is to explain the important elements of exterior ballistics so shooters can effectively apply the science to achieve greater success on the range or in the field. This book also offers an original contribution to the long range shooting sports: experimentally determined Ballistic Coefficient (BC) data for over 225 long range bullets of all popular brands. With accurately measured BC data, shooters are empowered to make more precise trajectory predictions than were possible prior to this publication.

4.0 out of 5 stars No App/Program with the Kindle Version! August 10, 2014
Verified Purchase
I purchased the Kindle edition. I would have given it five stars if there was an included app/program (or even a discount!) to do ballistic calculations included in the purchase price!.. didn't realize I would have to lay out more money.... Might want to factor that into the Kindle vs Hard Cover version....

Despite best efforts, this is still quite a technical read. If you want to learn about external ballistics, this is a great resource. If you are new to this field, you might want to have a dictionary and/or encyclopedia (google always works too).

As a gun builder, avid hunter and a person that hates rumors and wives tails, this is the exact book to read if you want to understand the numerous variables within ballistics and shooting long range - both the controllable and uncontrollable variables.

Don't be the guy that buys a certain caliber rifle "because my buddy said it works awesome" and then buy the cheapest 'on-sale' ammo and expect stellar performance.

Ballistics and rifle set up isn't an art form - it's a very thoroughly studied and documented science. In this book, Bryan writes in a manner that will both educate you with scientific data but won't put you to sleep with mind numbing technical jargon.

Bravo and job well done Bryan.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book November 27, 2014

I've been searching the internet and YouTube for articles and videos regarding ballistics and how it affects long range shooting when I came across this book. This book answered all my questions I had and even went into more detail on a lot of topics relevant to any long range shooter. I like that the author explained concepts in lay mans terms and also provided the equations as backup. Probably the most important and helpful content is the experimental BC data that the author meticulously generated. Now shooters have an apples-to-apples comparison of true BC values for a wide range of bullets.

This author has published a number of ballistics related books that overlap a bit, but they are relatively easy to read and a BS or MS in physics isn't required. Ultimately, the answer to the question, "Why do shooters miss their targets?" is operator error due to lack of knowledge, skill, ability and experience.
Bryan Litz is doing what he can to transfer knowledge so shooters can make better choices of equipment and ammunition, make better use of their time at the range or in the field, and have a better chance of effectively hitting their intended target.

3.0 out of 5 stars If you like playing with math and calculations October 28, 2014
Verified Purchase
I have read most of this book and it is another very technical read packed full of formulas and equations. If you like playing with math and calculations, you will love this book. You need to know a great deal about long range before you pick this book up or you will get lost pretty quick. I have been a student of distance shooting for many years and know that a lot of these facts contained are novelties and nice to know however, but next to impossible to utilize in the field in timely manner. May have enjoyed the hardcover more.
