2.0 out of 5 stars Too elementary for any real users except new students
The book covers a number of concepts in a broad swath; while the new finance student will get a decent overview with some applications, seasoned users will get the standard fare dished out in elementary finance texts. Not recommended for anyone with working knowledge of finance.

5.0 out of 5 stars An indispensable guide, October 20, 2002
By
This review is from: Applied Corporate Finance: A User's Manual (Paperback)
This book is one of my best investments I have ever made. It is perfectly suited for 1st year MBA students with no prior exposure to finance. The first principles chart appearing at the beginning of each chapter always drags the students to the basics of why we are doing things. Prof Damodaran seems to be an excellent teacher and makes corporate finance a fun subject. The support web site has wealth of information and most importantly solutions to problems(I have never understood why many books hardly bother to give answers to problems)are given. Don't do a corporate finance course without this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insight of the century. Redefining Wall Street's future., April 29, 1999
By
Athaporn (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
Damodaran is the greatest professors of all time. At Stern, over 300 students cram to listen to his teachings. This book offers an approach to evaluate what companies and businesses are truly worth and what one can do to turn them around. If you're looking for the book that will redefine Wall Street and boost your company to new heights, this book is definitely the material for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, December 14, 2002
By A Customer
Its easily the best book on corporate finance (yeah! I have read brearley and myers, benninga, ...).

Highly recommended. If you want to MASTER corporate finance. simply buy and read the book. The case studies and excel spreadsheets are very good. Another recommendation for a good financial analysis book is the book by eric helfert - financial analysis. Both books teach finance in common speak which goes a long way in understanding this topic for a new student.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent., December 7, 1998

This review is from: Applied Corporate Finance: A User's Manual (Paperback)
This is the best book on finance I have read. It builds a good foundation while providing enough detail and practical advice to make the book extremely useful.

Damodaran's style makes for easy reading and the online support is also very helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like Tina Turner once said, "Simply the Best", October 2, 2004

This book is just plain great from top to bottom. Damodaran makes it easy to get both the "bird's eye view" as well as the nitty gritty detail you want in a corporate finance text. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for something beyond an elementary understanding of finance.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
From my point of view the financial knowlagde this book transfer is very well organised. The grafics and figures help a lot. The secuence of chapters has been articstically estructured.
The simplicity of the appendixes is very helpful for non-specialist to have an aproximation to corporate finances.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, September 15, 1998

This review is from: Applied Corporate Finance: A User's Manual (Paperback)
Teh best corporate finance book I have ever read. Dr. Damodaran conveys advanced financial concepts in an easy-to-read manner. Most importantly, he effectively bridges theory to practice by giving several real life examples on how corporations make their financial decisions. The structure is clear (perfectly discerning between investment decisions, financing decisions and dividend decisions) and the content is particularily relevant.I have most enjoyed his explanations of financial strucutre of firms.

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT for Engineers..., July 11, 2011
I would not recommend this book to Engineers trying to learn Corporate Finance. The writer does not (unfortunately) employ a mathematical approach to the subject. Sometimes he even prefers to "describe" equations with words, instead of giving the equation in mathematical form.

Also, there are MANY typos and calculation errors in various tables. Totally unacceptable for such a book.

The material is very un-organised. Some exercises are placed in the wrong Chapter, which does NOT provide all the data necessary for solving them. Unless you read the next Chapter also, you cannot find the solution on your own.

Overall seems like a book which was written in a hurry, without being checked and tidied-up.

The author's site on the other hand is a very useful source of information, all for FREE. Very nice thing, especially in our days when you usually have to pay for everything...

To sum up: Perhaps being an engineer and a beginner does not allow me to appreciate this book that much. Still, I would not recommend it to non-finance people (like engineers) as their first introduction to the subject.
