4.0 out of 5 stars FORTRAN 77 from the ground up, July 15, 2010
This review is from: Applied Fortran 77: Featuring Structured Programming (Paperback)
I've written my own and corrected other's FORTRAN IV/66/77 programs for 20+ years now. Purchased in 1988, I still use this book on occasion, as the information presented in it and the examples given I still find useful when writing and debugging code. Meant as a textbook for those new to computing, no assumptions are made concerning the student's knowledge of programming. This leads to a series of fine example programs and problems for the student to solve. The "Follow-up Exercises" slowly transform small programs scattered throughout each chapter, which is the best part of this book. By forcing the student to change/grow existing programs, it gives them the skills needed to do what so many FORTRAN programmers do today: fix and expand other people's old code.
