Book Description

November 2, 2000
Designed as a "how-to-do-it" text for both beginning students and established professionals, the theories and techniques in Applied Hypnosis and Hyperempiria are presented in a clear and concise format. In contrast to hypnosis, hyperempiria is the groundbreaking system developed by the author, which is based on suggestions of enhanced awareness, mind expansion, and increased alertness and sensitivity. The book features both traditional hypnotic procedures and hyperempiric or a "mind-expanding" inductions. It contains sections on retrieving repressed or forgotten material, behavioral regulation and self-control, and guided fantasy techniques, as well as the use of suggestion as an instrument for personal growth in areas such as improving study skills, and taking examinations, achievement motivation, artistic expression, emotional enrichment, aesthetic appreciation and enjoyment, interpersonal effectiveness, musical performance, problem solving, public speaking, salesmanship, sports performance, theatrical performance, and writing ability. Applied Hypnosis and Hyperempiria continues to be of enormous benefit to a wide audience of both mental health professionals and the seriously curious.

5.0 out of 5 stars A How To Book of Hypnosis Skills Going Up Rather Than Down, January 14, 2009
By
George Guarino (Albany, New York, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Applied Hypnosis and Hyperempiria (Paperback)
I was lured to this book after having studied and used Ultra-Height as taught by Jerry Kein. Ultra-Height takes clients deep into somnambulism and even the coma-state when possible, then elevates the client's 'mind' up, out of their body and into very high levels of self awareness.

I wondered if Ultra-Height and Hyperempiria were the same. They're not.

Hyperempiria as Don Gibbons presents it immediately directs the client to experiences of heightened levels of feelings and focused attention using direct suggestion and metaphor. Though lesser used, this method certainly can by-pass the critical factor and establish trance.

I found it to be a wonderful read and taught me alot of techniques that I will use with my clients who are searching for creativity and enhanced abilities. There are other methods for uncovering what the client needs to know to change. This method takes a relatively 'healed' being and directs them to be all they can be. I am very interested in using hypnosis with students to improve study skills and test taking ability. I am also working with visual artists and will use the techniques in this book to inspire them to greatness.

There are a lot of hypnosis books out there. This one, for it's unique approach and modest price, is well worth owning and studying. It's not the end-all in hypnosis study but it does present both deepening techniques and elevating techniques which most 'how to' hypnosis books do not include. I'll refer to this book often. A a good reference book for the beginner and experienced hypnotist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book on Hypnosis I Have Ever Read!, April 11, 2010

This review is from: Applied Hypnosis and Hyperempiria (Paperback)
I own just about every book written on the subject of hypnosis. This book, inmy opinion, is the most useful book ever written on hypnosis. Let me make one thing clear; I don't think it is the best book for a beginner in this area, but to be without this book would be a tragedy.

In short, Don Gibbons clears things up, and moves beyond the arguments that surround hypnosis, and gets down to the business of showing you how to help people-or yourself-make rapid changes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great and practical book on the application of Hypnosis and Hyperempiria, October 22, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Applied Hypnosis and Hyperempiria (Paperback)
As far as I can tell, Gibbons invented (or at least coined the concept) of hyperempiria. It is a fascinating alternative to hypnosis and other meditation therapies. The book presents practical scripts and methods of hypnosis and hyperempiria (hyper=enhanced, empiria=perception), and very comprehensive applications of the techniques. I have not personally tested the validity of the claims in the book, but the book is a well documented text, with a scholarly bend, and plenty of references to actual experimental data and studies.
Of course the aim of the book is to be practical and specific, but I would have liked a little more abstraction in some parts and a deeper analysis of the theoretical concepts. In other words a little more on how to build the scripts, and how to construct new applications than on the scripts themselves. But none-the-less, this book's introduction to the idea of hyperempiria and its applications is well worth the read.
