These bar magnets are amazingly strong. We got them for homeschool science and my son has really enjoyed doing experiments with them. The only drawback I have with them is that they are so strong that it can be easy for little ones(or parents!) to get their fingers in the way of the magents trying to get together and we have both pinched our fingers a few times. :0) Also, if they get stuck to one another it is very hard to separate them. All in all though we have really enjoyed them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super magnets, March 8, 2010
This review is from: Applied Magnets ® 3-pc 2" X 1/2" x 1/2" Neodymium Rare Earth Magnets (Misc.)
These magnets are the real deal. I purchased them to be used as stud finders and they work beyond my imagination. Not only are they strong enough to hang on the wall by themselves when over a screw head, but they are strong enough to find a metal stud and hang on the wall, pulling through 5/8" of drywall. I highly recommend these

These delightfully packaged magnets are powerful and have numerous uses. The only problem is that they are fragile. It would be wise to protect your investment from impact. I recommend using a rubberized coating compound called "plasti-dip".

4.0 out of 5 stars Strong fields for sure, July 20, 2010

Its really amazing how strong these are! I was really surprised when they stuck to my wall (I had no idea there was metal things in my wall). I bought these for an experiment that did not require particularly uniform fields, but these were actually pretty nicely made, providing well defined fields without many anomalies. It was a while ago, so I can't quite recall how many Gauss the field was. I was disappointed, however, when two of them snapped together and cracked one straight into 3 pieces. It was really inconvenient cause one of the little shards flew off into an optical mirror, and scratched it, which, upon examining, I knocked over a Cesium vapor cell, which shattered, much to my dismay. Moral of the story, these are 'strong' in the sense that they have strong magnetic fields. They are NOT strong with regards to their physical capability to withstand collisions. Also, be careful when examining mirrors, since human elbows are absolutely everywhere!

I bought these magnets just for fun. These are much more powerful then I had imagined when I ordered them. I keep them attached to a wall in my office. Since they can effect hard drives and many other pieces of electronic equipment it makes storing them a very thought out consideration or even where you play with them. I have played with them several times and they are really amazing and well worth the money I spent. I'm sure I will find new ways to play with them from time to time for the rest of my life. If you enjoy playing with something cool and are intrigued by the mystical power of magnetism, these will satisfy.

This magnet holds like iron. I use it to find my earring clutches that I have dropped in the carpeting.

this magnet has not lost strength. It is still as hard to remove as the day I installed it.

I was expecting it to lose magnetic strength since I attached it to the underside of a touring motorcycle, and I ran it when the outside temps were in the 98 - 104 F range. When the temp gets to 102, you can imagine how hot the black asphalt gets. And that's exactly why I thought the magnet would lose strength. So I looked for a magnet that had a ridiculously strong pull when new, figuring it would lose some strength, and hopefully end up at some point that would still be strong enough to trigger traffic lights (my experiement for Green Light Switch). Well, it delivered more than I expected in this sense.

there is this one traffic light that just doesn't see me even though I already had one Samariam Cobalt magnet by the jiffy stand. Well, now it sees me. I figure it's probably both magnets working in conjunction to setup a wide enough mag field, as opposed to attributing the success to this magnet alone. But for my intended use, for triggering traffic lights, I've gotten really good results due to this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful and dangerous, September 11, 2010

These things aren't just powerful, they're dangerous. I'm using them to attach electrical fixtures to a metal ceiling (is that allowed? :). I'm not worried about anything falling off. I almost need a crowbar to get them loose. Don't let these things snap together with any body parts in the way.
