5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! Really Strong is an understatement, December 1, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Applied Magnets ® 4" X 1" x 1/2" Neodymium Magnet Block (Misc.)
First of all, please excuse my non-technical review. I'm not a physicist nor am I any sort of magnet expert. I'm just a guy who's curious about magnets and wanted some strong ones to play around with.

I just bought 2 of these and I don't think I've ever felt a magnet as powerful as this. I had a hard time getting into the packaging and thought, "what's all the fuss about"? When I finally got to the magnets, they were separated by wood and I thought, "Oh come on...that's a bit much". Then I tried to separate them and immediately learned why the packaging was so much.

These are really strong, powerful magnets and I've pinched myself many times already and I just opened them about 3 hours ago. I then got them stuck together, without the wood, and I'm not sure how to get them apart yet. I can only twist them a fraction of an inch and there's absolutely no way I can just pull them apart. I'm going to have to twist and pry them apart because the attraction is so incredibly strong.

Regarding the seller (Applied Magnets), the shipping was fast and the transaction was simple. This is a good seller and an excellent product.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a magnet!, April 8, 2009

Let me preface this by saying I am a huge nerd.

This magnet is awesome! It is the most powerful permanent magnet that I have ever seen. We have used it to erase hard drives while they are running at work, and that was pretty awesome. I also put a plastic sandwich bag over it and used it to pick up metal shavings in my garage. It works very well for that.

Make sure you do not get your fingers in between this magnet and a ferrous metal. It will pinch them bad, if not off.

My use was unusual - to hold closed a wooden slat door in all kinds of weather. I'm surprised at the strength of this and am sure it will work (haven't yet used it for that purpose, but everyone gets a kick out of it when they try to remove it from my refridgerator). It's very strong, and can be dangerous if not handled properly.

Just received these today.I'm sitting here typing with 9 fingers.Earlier was able to separate them with spacers between & put back together. Decided to try again tonight. Damn, these little suckers snapped back together so fast I can't believe it ! Result my first finger on right hand has a nice gouge on it. And here I laughed at all the others comments. Well fellas now you can have the last laugh. Bottom line be very careful with them. Now I have to figure out how to separate them without killing myself. Fun trying to be a kid again.

5.0 out of 5 stars the super hero of the magnet world, August 20, 2009
This review is from: Applied Magnets ® 4" X 1" x 1/2" Neodymium Magnet Block (Misc.)
From what I can gather, these are the strongest magnets that civilians can get a hold of. So how strong are they, you ask? Let's just say that these neodymium super stars come separated for good reason. If a couple of these magnets make contact with each other, a person of average strength may not be able to pull the two apart. If snapped together around the fingers, these magnets can easily injure somebody. In the wrong hands, these can become instant death to any electronic device. There is one drawback to the 4" X 1" x 1/2" neodymium magnets. Compared to the typical black magnets that you'd get at a hardware store, these do chip and scar more easily. While these bad boys are magnetically stronger, they're structurally weaker. It's kind of ironic, isn't it? What does anybody really need a magnet this strong for? Such magnets could clean-up metal scraps or harvest magnetite from sand dunes. Such power could also keep a metal gate closed. They have dozens of applications and chances are that if you're reading these words, you've found one of those odd jobs for super magnets. Fortunately, Applied Magnets (the seller), offers a wide variety of shapes and sizes. These magnets deliver super power strength at a great value.

This has been a great magnet to show the class how magnetism works and lines of force.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh My God, What have I bought, June 25, 2011
This review is from: Applied Magnets ® 4" X 1" x 1/2" Neodymium Magnet Block (Misc.)
These are the strongest magnets I have ever purchased, not for young children, inattentive teens or slow adults - these things will snap at you if you don't pay attention. One comment - these are shipped in plain boxes with no warnings - my package stuck to the inside of the mail box and had to be pried from the wall - keep them well away from TV, Computers, Credit Cards and anything else effected by stong magnetic fields.

If you're looking for the strongest magnets around you found them!

I ordered two of these for my son's science experiments. They are exceedingly strong! They came with plastic "cushions" sandwiched in between. Be careful not to let them stick together. You will have a hard time separating them, and you might hurt your fingers or sprain your wrists doing that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Motorcycle Magnet, March 21, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Applied Magnets ® 4" X 1" x 1/2" Neodymium Magnet Block (Misc.)
My motorcycle sometimes wouldn't trip traffic light sensors & more importantly wouldn't trip the automatic EXIT gate sensor where I work. I read online that a strong magnet attached to your bike would make those sensors think you were in a car, and trip lights, security exit gates, etc. IT WORKED. I bought two of these magnets, attached them to my bike, and I don't have to worry about getting someone at work open the gate for me. Traffic lights change too. Be careful while handling these magnets though. They're shipped to you with a piece of wood separating the two magnets. If your finger (or any other part of your body) gets between the two magnets, prepare to experience pain. Also, if the two magnets attach to each other, you won't get them apart....ever; (unless you build a special all-wood contraption to split the magnets apart from each other). The supplier shipped the magnets quickly, and the price seemed reasonable. If you have a requirement for a special-need magnet, these are the GO TO guys.

This is the strongest magnet I have ever encountered that's not an electro magnet. If it's on a piece of steel it is difficult to pry it off. I don't think a child would be strong enough to separate it from whatever it is attached.

If you want a very very strong magnet, look no further!
