5.0 out of 5 stars Safety Tip
I made the mistake of getting 2 of these magnets. If one has a 146 lb pull then 2 together must be about twice the pull, at least they are to try to pull them apart. I've been accused of either gluing or soldering them together. Trouble is I can't get them apart. The first time they flew together my finger was in the middle. I know these are super strong magnets. I ordered 3 of them and although they had a lot of bubble wrap around them, they were only separated by a little plastic spacer. I grasped them to remove one at a time. With a firm grip and a strong pull the end magnet came off then while still in my hand it launched out of my hand and hit the spacer so hard it shot across the room...

4.0 out of 5 stars Fanstastic power but brittle., October 15, 2008

This is the first Neodymium magnet I have ever bought or seen in person. I had heard about them for a long time so finally decided to get some. The power of this exceeded my expectations. they are difficult to believe. In the few weeks since I got this, I have ordered several more of different sizes from here and also other places online. This place has the best prices I have found so far. The one big drawback is how fragile these things are. All of the ones I ordered from here and the other places, and every size is like that. The edges and corners break off fairly easily if you let them slam together too hard - which happens all the time because of how powerful they are. My last couple of orders have been plastic-coated ones which I have had to find at other places because they don't carry those here yet. The major drawback of the plastic-coated ones are that the plastic coating cuts down the power by almost 50%. Plus they cost a bit more. But I think it is still really worth it. The plain ones just break too easily. So that is all I have been ordering my last couple of orders. These things are fantastic. I still can't believe how powerful they are. One last thing. You will pinch your fingers between them no matter how careful you are. You will see what I mean if you get a couple!

5.0 out of 5 stars The most deadly thing you can (currently) buy without a license, December 30, 2010

I also bought a few of these, and also lost part of my finger. I bled more than I have since I was about ten and fell off my bicycle, way back then.

That's not really significant, though. What's significant is that I read all of the other horror stories about people losing small pieces of their fingers to these magnets, before I even ordered mine. So I planned a lot and I really tried to be careful. I wasn't careful enough, though. I used some plastic pieces pieces to separate my magnets, out of their original packaging, but I didn't use long enough plastic pieces, and so, snap.

If you have two of these magnets in the same room, you need to handle these magnets with only material that is greater than the significant attraction distance between these two magnets, so stuff that's about 8 inches long. Basically, if you get these magnets within 8 inches of each other, they're going to powerfully snap together, and unless you're handling them with stuff that's longer than 8 inches, your fingers are going to get hurt.

In my opinion, paying an additional charge for separate shipping for these magnets is well worth it just so you don't risk losing a finger. Because, who, really, can stop at just one super dangerous magnet?

You can also probably lose part of a finger by just snapping these magnets to stuff, like a refrigerator. The box they came in stuck to my front door, and I didn't even realize my front door had any metal in it.

I'm sure it's only a matter of time before someone is significantly injured by these, and then you'll need a license to buy them, so stock up now.

After getting snagged on this magnet, it freaked me out. I bought a 20-foot Zinc Chain and wrapped the magnets in it. Then I wrapped the chained magnet in a bunch of Bubble Wrap. Then I placed the chained, bubble-wrapped magnet in a Plastic Container, and I'm still afraid that this thing is going to wipe the hard drive on my computer and demagnetize my credit cards, if I get either too close.

I was going to give these magnets to kids for Christmas, but they're way too dangerous for kids, so they're just on my shelf now. Instead I got the kids Semiautomatic Nerf Guns since those are way safer.

Pros:
-Very powerful
-150 pounds of pull in 0.0012 cubic feet of material is a lot of pull in a very little space.

Cons:
-Very dangerous
-Extremely dangerous
-Very, excruciatingly dangerous
-Keep away from anyone with metal fillings. It'll rip your teeth out.

I bought two magnets through this same vendor and was amazed at the strength they have. In fact, they're potentially dangerous if they get anywhwere near each other.

My use was to hold closed an old wooden slat door. I haven't installed yet, but am confident it's the right product.

In the mean time they are stuck to my refridgerator, to the great amusement of my kids and guests (it takes great strength to remove, and will hold a small book to the fridge).

5.0 out of 5 stars powerful so watch yourself, January 21, 2010

This product is exactly what it claims to be, a small block of metal that is an extremely powerful magnet. Take note of the pulling force of this magnet. Think of it as a 145lbf weight that you are trying to lift. It has a very strong attractive force, but its range is very small. It is attractive up to about two inches away from itself. Anything further out it has no effect on. When it is within this range, as other reviews have stated BEWARE! It will smash anything that gets in its way. My purpose for this product was to use it as a securing mount for a machete that I carry when hiking. The machete hangs from a clip on my belt and I was annoyed with it banging against my leg as I walked and climbed. I slipped this magnet in my cargo pocket and it now stays securely on my leg. The magnet was too strong at first, so I wrapped it in a layer of duct tape and fashioned a .5 in. thick eraser to it. This reduced its strength enough to allow the knife to stay against my leg until I give it a tug to remove it. Yes it seems like a lot of effort, but oh well.

Wow, these are some powerful magnets! I work construction and need to locate metal framing members behind drywall up to an inch and a half. This magnet works great and I can even locate rebar in concrete helping when I need to miss int while drilling an anchor. Thanks for a wonderful tool!

5.0 out of 5 stars 2x1x1, November 30, 2010
This review is from: Applied Magnets ® 2" X 1" x 1" Super Strong Rare Earth Neodymium Block Magnet (Misc.)
This Magnet works perfectly for my use. I embed them in a long 2x4 and then stick my large tools to it to hold them up on the wall. Shovels, Rakes, Etc. Smaller ones I use for the knives to stick on the flat side and also my wrenches, screwdrivers etc. Amazingly easy to stick your tools up in an organized manner. HOWEVER, do NOT ever play with them unless you like crushing your body parts and removing large chunks of flesh in a very painful manner. Never-ever let a child play with them and most adults should avoid them as well. I've watched two people do exactly what they were told not to do now, and both persons paid dearly for their mistake. One lost a finger nail and the tip of a finger and the other received a split lip and a blood blister the size of a quarter on there hand. I can honestly say that every person I show them too is absolutely astonished at the force they have, and then after I warn them what not to do - they do it and they get hurt. These are not toys. If you think you want to play with them, please go buy some small ones and get an idea of what you're messing with first. You can still hurt yourself with the small ones, but you probably wont lose a finger tip.

As other reviewers indicate, this is not a toy. I do not think I would allow a child to play with it unsupervised. It can pinch a finger badly or become permanently affixed to something! It is a very strong magnet. That said, it was a fantastic tool for a science fair project and amazed us with how strong it was. As we were careful with it for safety, we did not have any problems with chipping or breaking as some have indicated. A great product when used appropriately.

I looked at this for over a year before i decided to get it and i can't put it down. The power is awesome, i love it. i have a ton of rare earth magnets from old hard drives and i always thought that was enough and that they couldn't get much more powerful. I hope to get the bigger one some time.

This magnet is extremely powerful and should be treated with caution. I intentionally did not buy two of these in order to avoid the issues (smashed fingers) that are detailed in the other reviews. Works great but needs to be kept in a safe place and away from children and computers.
