If everyone out there involved in streams, fisheries, land management, bridge construction, stream restoration projects, etc. was familiar with the principles in this book, there would be a lot more true restoration success stories and a lot less catastrophic failures and property damage in flood events. As a hydrologist for a major government agency, I have had ample opportunity to see that these principles really work in the field, and have seen the endless line of failures that occur when they are ignored. Highly recommend!!! An absolute must if you want those projects to work!!!

I am not really sure what was so boring for our British friend. Maybe he knows everything about streams already. However, this book is concise in it's description of stream morphology and identification of the basic stream types located in North America. I use the book on a continual basis and it's information is consistent and scientifically valid.

A perfect book for beginners learning the field of river hydrology and a good visual reference for professionals. Plenty of of great pictures and diagrams clearly explaining characteristics of different river systems. A downpoint is that it lacks discussion of some more advanced ideas on river morphology and sediment transport.

Applied River Morphology is not the only river morphology book you will need, but it is the only one you will refer to again and again, on every project. This book is even enjoyable to read through and look at the photos and sketches during non-work time.

Great Pictures, Boring Text. Each chapter is a rewording of the last one. The pictures however are very good. If you got it free from your publishers - lucky you, but dont bother to buy it, borrow it from the library. Read it if you have sleep problems, they'll be solved overnight!!
