No excuse for all the errors,

This review is from: Applied Statistics and Probability for Engineers (Hardcover)
This could be a valuable text with lots of practice questions. But any good qualities are totally overshadowed by its numerous errors. If you are forced to use this book for a class, be sure to find the errata listings on its associated web page early in the semester.

Worst book ever,
By A Customer
This review is from: Applied Statistics and Probability for Engineers (Hardcover)
I have never seen as many mistakes in any other college level textbook in my life. The authors are so lazy, the end of section questions refer to tables and information which you have to flip backwards 50 or 75 pages to find the example they are referring to. The could not come up with new examples of what. Definitely use Bean's book which uses many real world examples to illustrated ideas. This book is awful.

Yes, engineers can learn statistics!,
By Sergio Tonini Button (Campinas, Brazil) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Applied Statistics and Probability for Engineers (Hardcover)
Engineers always think Statistics as a science of dice and coins, and tend to simplify the analysis of random results with means and standard deviations. "Applied Statistics and Probability for Engineers" shows how this important science can help engineers to develop and improve processes and products. The text is clear and comprehensive covering from basic probability to statistical quality control. The examples and exercises represent practical problems and interesting case studies of engineering and experimental design.

Good stat book,
By Falling Maple (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Applied Statistics and Probability for Engineers (Hardcover)
This is the text book for my undergrad stat class many years ago. Now, after completing a PhD in OR, I found myself still occasionally come back to this book for something, more than the regression book I used in grad school. It is very straightforward and clear. I'm not aware of the typos a lot of reviewers were complaining, however, I don't scrutinize those formulas too as I'm always more interested in the explanation rather than formula. However, I must say this book is only good for implementation, to gain more insights on theory, I will go for Mathematical Statistics and Data Analysis by John A. Rice (which has a lot implementation + nice insights, but a bit disorganized), and PhD level, nothing can beat the classics by Lehman.

Good for reference,
By Dustin Blakey (Springdale, AR United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Applied Statistics and Probability for Engineers (Hardcover)
This is an excellent reference work, though, as a text is is inadequate. I found that several of the answers in the back are incorrect and often the practice questions rely too much "refer to problem 8-16." The explanations are somewhat hard to follow as is the practice of placing figures some distance away from the related text. This is a Wiley book so it is over-priced, but what are you going to do?

Great math book,

This review is from: Applied Statistics and Probability for Engineers, Student Workbook with Solutions (Paperback)
The book was extremely concise and was very thorough in explaining the probability functions and other statisitic topics. I am a Masters student and I found this book dealt with the fundamentals in a perfect way. The CD that comes with the book with key solutions for the assignment questions was great. Made me learn Minitab for solutions in a very easy manner. This book is a good read and very rich in fundamentals and explanations. I wish they had more solutions for the assignments. But I loved it and got a good grade in my class. Thanks for such a great book!

Riddled with Errors,
By Chris Lucas (Knoxville, TN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Applied Statistics and Probability for Engineers (Hardcover)
This book has the potential to be good but I've already uncovered about 20 mistakes during 2 weeks of extremely light use. There are numerous problems that are set up so that the answers are insane (Z > 9 problem 7-42). I think the publisher should fire whoever proofed this book. Don't waste your money, get Walpole and Myers instead for an introductory text.

Best engineering text on statistics,
By Allan T. Mense "teacher in industry" (Green Valley, AZ United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Applied Statistics and Probability for Engineers (Hardcover)
The third edition has been improved but has the same practical feel as earlier editions. Real data is used for most examples and having the "entire book" on a CDROM including the data sets, solution manual and supplimental material puts this text "over the top" in terms of usefulness. It is an excellent reference for the practical engineer who uses statistics only occasionally.
I use this in industry and teach internal (to the company) courses using this text. The CDROM really makes it the text of choice.

There are so many mistakes...so many,
By A Customer
This review is from: Applied Statistics and Probability for Engineers (Hardcover)
There are quite a few unforgivable mistakes...They highlight one of the most important formulas on a page and the formula is WRONG... The answers at the end of the book are so wrong that will confuse you. The authers should proofread the book much more carefully.

Statistics review,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Applied Statistics and Probability for Engineers (Hardcover)
This text book had easy to understand formulas. Some short cuts were taken in the examples so if you have forgotten all your math tips, you may have to try twice to complete the problem. But this saves much needed space. The sample problems involved engineering problems, so it was easier to see relevance. I would skip the first chapter.
