4.0 out of 5 stars a book to appeal to all practitioners of the art, March 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Applied Tai Chi Chuan (Paperback)
Applied Tai Chi Chaun is a book that should appeal to all practitioners of the art whatever their style, level or ability. It is not like the majority of books about Tai Chi Chaun on the market at the moment which generally tend to be mainly concerned with the form, it instead it concentrates on the most important aspects of the art, the principles which underlie it. Broken down into short chapters Mr Sutton tries to put across, in plain and straightforward prose, the meanings of each aspect of the art (whether this be form, weapons, push hands or applications) and how they are related and used to compliment each other.

I especially like the way that everything that the author writes appears to have come from direct experience only, as opposed to wild conjecture, and that though he has obviously trained mainly in Cheng man Ching Tai Chi the topics that are discussed are equally relvent to those that practice any of the other styles that are prevalent today.

In all this is a well thought out book that has much to offer both the beginner and the serious student and one that can be referred to time and time again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Cheng info, November 9, 2009

This review is from: Applied Tai Chi Chuan (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this small book. It has quite a bit of info on Master Cheng man ching, whose form I have studied and taught for over 20 yrs. It is not for someone looking for instruction but if you want to know more about Cheng Man ching and the Master's background, this is a good source.
