This book was more than a little water damaged when received.

The book, itself was fine, but I found out an entire chapter was ripped out of the text!!!

This book was purchased as the text for a Career Development class in a graduate program in Counseling. We're using it as a resource to supplement the lectures. I am finding it easy to read and so far very helpful. I especially appreciate the case examples and client/counselor dialogues as well as the information regarding the various tests and inventories which seem to be an integral part of the career counseling environment.

Great information in this text for career counseling classes. An incredibly dry read though, a dreaded completing the reading for each class period. I would definitely call this more of a reference, it covers career counseling very well but it is too hard to read considering the tiny print and light ink.

This was a required textbook. It is well written and explains the theories and I will keep it and refer to it for use in other classes as well.

This is a great book for the new career counseling professional who might not have had any career coursework in their graduate program, or for those who want a book with a nice discussion of various theories with relevant case studies. It is also a great textbook for graduate level coursework. While studying theory can be a bit dry, Sharf includes case studies to make it more interesting. I keep a copy of this book for reference.

The writing is so dry and so very boring. Sharf is a fan of key terms and throws a seemingly endless supply at his readers. Much of the citations seem out of date (relying upon a model presented in the 1950s to analyze vocational opportunities TODAY), but it remains to be seen what else is out there.

Expensive, buy it used if you can. I sold mine as soon as I finished the class. It wasn't as dry as some say it is. It is practical for real world ideas when it comes to MMPI and thinking about helping others with career ambivalence. However, its a textbook. Better than most, but not something I would keep to refer back to in the future.

I bought this book for a college class. It was extremely informative of the career development theories available to counselors. The class was kind of dry, so I think the presentation of the material may be what jaded me. However, it is a good tool and I plan to keep it on my shelf as a reference for the future.

It's an interesting book, but it wasn't my choice to buy. It was the assigned textbook for my course.Mostly a very easy read.
