Editorial Reviews

Review
"Richard S. Sharf is an Associate Professor of Individual and Family Studies and Psychology at the University of Delaware. He has worked as a psychologist in the Center for Counseling and Student Development for over thirty years doing therapy with University students. Dr. Sharf has additional books published with Wadsworth including, APPLYING CAREER DEVELOPMENT THEORY TO COUNSELING, 3/E AND LIFE CHOICES: PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS." --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Review
"In my opinion, the author did an excellent job of covering the essential topics in a logical sequence. There are many (and varied) examples and case studies that highlight specific career counseling issues."

"I would describe the Sharf text as an up-to-date comprehensive examination of applying career development theory to the counseling setting. It is a well-researched and well-organized text for students with a background in the helping professions."

"While other career texts briefly underline the basic concepts of the theories, Sharf’s text goes into detail. He describes the applicability of the theories to marginalized groups well. The case scenarios are a wonderful addition to this text." --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book for beginners, October 5, 1999
By A Customer
This book provides a comprehensive discussion and integration of career development theories. The instructor's manual assists the beginning professor with an opportunity to impart quality pedagogical knowledge to students. The examples cited throughout the text offer students an opportunity ingest the course material and retain their newly found knowledge. The author makes learning career theories enjoyable and very applicable to situations.

This book presents 14 theories arranged by type of theory. It is clear, concise, and each theory is beautifully illustrated by vignette.

5.0 out of 5 stars Career Development Theories, June 3, 2009
This book was purchased as the text for a Career Development class in a graduate program in Counseling. We're using it as a resource to supplement the lectures. I am finding it easy to read and so far very helpful. I especially appreciate the case examples and client/counselor dialogues as well as the information regarding the various tests and inventories which seem to be an integral part of the career counseling environment.
