3.0 out of 5 stars Oh, so Boring, but Relevant
The writing is so dry and so very boring. Sharf is a fan of key terms and throws a seemingly endless supply at his readers. Much of the citations seem out of date (relying upon a model presented in the 1950s to analyze vocational opportunities TODAY), but it remains to be seen what else is out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Career Development Theories, June 3, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book was purchased as the text for a Career Development class in a graduate program in Counseling. We're using it as a resource to supplement the lectures. I am finding it easy to read and so far very helpful. I especially appreciate the case examples and client/counselor dialogues as well as the information regarding the various tests and inventories which seem to be an integral part of the career counseling environment.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great information, December 27, 2011
Great information in this text for career counseling classes. An incredibly dry read though, a dreaded completing the reading for each class period. I would definitely call this more of a reference, it covers career counseling very well but it is too hard to read considering the tiny print and light ink.

This was a required textbook. It is well written and explains the theories and I will keep it and refer to it for use in other classes as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for the new career counseling professional, July 13, 2011
This is a great book for the new career counseling professional who might not have had any career coursework in their graduate program, or for those who want a book with a nice discussion of various theories with relevant case studies. It is also a great textbook for graduate level coursework. While studying theory can be a bit dry, Sharf includes case studies to make it more interesting. I keep a copy of this book for reference.

3.0 out of 5 stars Career Development, February 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book describes the various types of theories in career counseling. It is very descriptive and portrays much research and several types of examples. The chapters are boring though. I wish the author used more real life examples about different cultures and approaches. Amazon's delivery was quick and efficent. The book was also in great condition.

3.0 out of 5 stars Costs too much, February 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The only issue I have is that the book costs entirely too much given its content.
