Applying Communication Theory for Professional Life: A Practical Introduction is the first communication theory textbook to provide practical material for career-oriented students. The inclusion and analysis of real-world case studies illustrate the application of theory in a variety of professional settings. Whereas other communication theory texts have a more academic focus on theory or research methods, this book is specifically designed to introduce communication theory in a tangible way. The featured theories are those that have strong pragmatic value and clear applicability to communication and business practitioners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, absolutely brilliant, March 20, 2006

This review is from: Applying Communication Theory for Professional Life: A Practical Introduction (Paperback)
This book is astounding. Its clear, accessible written presentation reveals the authors have a superior grasp of effective teaching methodologies, and for that matter, communication in general. I see teaching as the ultimate summit of human communication (amounting not only to receiving of information, but to retention and application of real world concepts)... and this book handles its subject in a superb manner. I'm a graphic design professional, and all aspects of 'communication' facsinate me, although much of the academic texts on the subject of 'communication' perpetuate the ambiguity and self-aggrandising, elitist embivalence long used as a tool by academia, resisting real world accountability and application. More of this sort of pratical information and clarity needs to be made accessible to more people, and this book is the best example I have seen to actively facilitate this.

This book is very helpful when accompanied with a Communication Theory textbook. The writing is clear, succinct with real world applications. The case studies are on target with thoughtful/realistic scenarios and great "Questions to Consider."
