Apprenticed to Pleasure: An Erotic Sci-Fi Novel

This is an erotic novel (definitely!), but it's even more a sword and sorcery adventure and a gay romance. The main character is a young musician named Ander, and the story starts when he meets two foxy guys who visit the brothel where he works. Trouble shows up and Ander discovers his new friends are far more mysterious than he had imagined. I love the characters, who are people you really like and enjoy having adventures with. They are emotionally involved with each other. I think this makes the erotica way more interesting than in most novels. The sex is vital to the plot, not just thrown in. There are lots of surprises and an element of humor. So if you like classic sword and sorcery (colorful magic, quests and adventures) as well as gay erotica, this is your book. I thought it was a blast

I was hoping for freshness and originality in this novel because it features gay sorcerers whose magic depends on sex, which is a plot device I haven't come across very often. However, I found the plot to be ordinary and sparse. I felt that the characters were all the same; handsome, horny, intelligent, amiable. It was hard for me to tell them apart. Also, I felt that the language Fox used was too precious, if you know what I mean. Words and phrases like "handsome youths", "godlike", and "magnificent body", were used constantly, and everyone was always kissing tenderly, caressing gently. I felt the sex scenes could have been much more arousing, but, as I said, the characters were interchangeable and the writing was cliche; all the sex acts seemed the same. I would have liked to see different acts associated with individual spells, for example. All in all, I was disappointed with the book, although if you want a quick, easy read with lots of explicit sex, this is your book.

This book is incredible... at first the plot, with it's premise of sorcery based on sexual acts, may seem a bit contrived. However, the reader soon forgets about all of this as s/he is drawn into the story. The characters are really well done and extremely likable.They each have their own unique qualities and personalities that add a lot to the story. The emotional bond between them is very well-written also, and it makes their sexual adventures that much sexier. This is definitely the most arousing book I have ever read. The magical aspect of the story is really interesting, too. Great for a dark, stormy night... a real turn-on.

For anyone who has ever considered the possibility that there might be something unique and/or special about the love of two same-sex partners, this book gives flesh to the most profound expressions of those feelings. The romantic in one cannot help but be moved by the emotions that this book generates.

It presents characters who are developed thoroughly and make one want to know each one even better. The settings may be fantastic, but they provide the reader with the real hope that love really does have meaning--especially with the right person/people when given the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships founded on love and devotion to something beyond oneself.

Brandon Fox is a Mage of Words. Like few authors I've read in any genre, Fox is able to create vivid and wonderful word pictures. He creates a painting in your mind, beautiful colors and scenes, good mind candy! Plus, what a relief to read erotica that is warm and loving and sensous and focused on the whole experience of love-making and not just orgasm. CONJURING THE FLESH is more magic and just as beautiful. More, please, Mr.Fox... PLEASE!

Ander works as a musician in a brothel, but when he meets the young lovers Nicolai and Sorel, he is drawn to them in more ways than one. This is my first time into Erotic Sci-Fi and I can't even explain what a good time I had. The swashbuckling adventures of the main characters really had me going and the sensuality of the intimate encounters even had me going further.
I just ordered Brandon Fox's other books.
If you are in the for a can't put down book this is for you.

I actually saw the sequel, "Conjuring the Flesh" for sale at "A Different Light" bookstore in San Francisco. It looked good but I asked for the first book, which they also had. I should have bought them both! "Apprenticed to Pleasure" was excellent! When I went back to get the sequel they were out of it. Amazon.com still say's that it's not published but I think they're mistaken. We'll see who get's it it back in stock first.

This novel is sexy, romantic and full of adventure - an excellent combination! The sequel's name is "Conjuring the Flesh" and it features the same appealing characters. Amazon.com has already sent me a copy, even though their catalog continues to list the book as 'not yet published.' It is, and it's fun!
